If there is no click on the relay.....

Doesn't that mean its bad?

After a huge thunderstorm here in Syracuse - I now get in my 2nd gen Charger - Battery at full power, lights and radio - but turn the key and not a sound.

Using Volt meter, I have voltage going into Starter relay just fine, but no click at all.....

Does that mean the rain might have shorted out or wrecked the starter relay?

I need to go test it thoruoughly - but wanted to know if I'm in the right area......

Anyone have an image of a schematic diagram that shows what voltages should be were on the Starter relay after the key is turned?

I always thought if there was no sound/click - then the starter relay is shot.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ryan

ground at ground source coming from tranny ?

make a ground jumper between prong and chassis, to check is is wire loosen or damaged switch

12 volts coming from yellow wire at start moment ?

No offence intended but I have seen this before, are you in park? is the linkage adjusted correctly? looking
for an easy cheap fix at this point.

No offense taken at all - my linkage has never gave me this problem before - when it is in park, it has always operated fine in terms of getting the starter to kick over.

It was running and starting like a champ and I drove it all day, then I had to out run a thunderstorm/mini-tornado, parked it - and then the downpour and high winds hit it....the next morning - nothing.....

so I am assuming it is not a linkage problem even though I have taken it in and out of park and reset it back in to make sure the car can start properly - I know the linkage is adjusted properly, but I also was looking for the easy way out of this.

I was able to grab the diagram off another thread and I will go and check for proper voltages and continuity right now.

Yes I did check for ground at ground source coming from tranny and it was there......

I took my voltmeter and tested the ground and it came out just fine -

and there is 12 volts at the coil at start moment.......

So does that mean, the relay is bad? Or does the relay send the 12 volts to the coil?

I mean 12 volts AT YELLOW WIRE on relay at start position, not at the coil

Going to check right now - be back in an hour.......

I know the wiring on the relay is not stock so, I have a diagram that I'll test all leads and repost if I don't find it then....

Thanks for the help.

I'll be back soon.

OK, I found out the problem but now I have another one......

You were right, I used the diagram off another thread and tested the leads - no ground coming from the tranny wire (brown)....

so I jacked up the Charger and had the volt meter set for continuity and the leads set on ground and the brown wire end......

I crawled under the Charger and found the transmission switch - and pulled it back a bit - a click later, and the voltmer read 0.0 - I got ground!

Yay!

I lowered the Charger and keyed the engine - Va-voom - Charger fires up and runs......

but....and there always is a but isn't there.....

It won't go into reverse or back into park, just Drive or Neutral......

So that means somewhere along the last time I drove it, the gear linkage loosened up on me or something......

Now I have to find out how to adjust or tighten the transmission linkage - and if it is possible without removing the drivers-side header....

I'm going to go post this question over in the transmission section of the board.

Thanks again guys for the help!

Almost there.....

at least the electrical stuff was fixed LOL... now next step.
