I was just roaming around the web today, and found this news...........

http://www.planetsrt.com

Could this be one of the first victims of the high gas prices? or low sales? or making room for the new Challenger? :shruggy: :icon_smile_sad:

I would love to have one of these trucks. Someday........ :icon_smile_big:

Now thats the motor for a old charger car if somebody wants a new high tech motor. Should fit also. Still think it would not be easy or cheap but if it was done right, look out.

It's a two-door and two-doors don't sell. :D Without reading your link I suspect the reason for its demise, if that's what's happening, is that there's no competition. Ford dropped the Lightning as soon as they discovered that the SRT10 could kick its butt all over the track so it's kind of a super niche market right now. That said, I don't know why they have to drop it entirely since there's so few of them made and the platform isn't specialized. As far as I know it's just a single cab Ram pickup with a V-10, a body kit and a fancy interior. There's probably some suspension upgrades too though.

SRT10 has sales ?

Where , Not around here. I've heard of several dealers willing to sell below cost to just move them off the floor, We've got a NEW 2004 sitting on the used car side of the lot and STILL can't get anyone to bite

Charger1970

I was seriously looking at an '04 SRT 10 with 4,000 miles. It was like new. They were asking $35,000. The dealbreaker was the gas mileage (13 MPG highway) and it also burns premium fuel.

I ended up buying my '05 Ram Daytona.

I wouldn't say you see Ram SRT's OFTEN around Atlanta but I have seen quite a few. Sad to see them ending production.

my former employer has a new srt10 with 200 miles, still on mso-he keeps trying to get 38 grand, but when we brought it to the auction it did 27500,frigging thing is fast but a gas hog and super costly-sticker is like 48300!

There is also a 4-door version of the SRT-10.  They did not have one two years ago when I was looking a four a quad cab pickup!!

Speaking from a tight wad point of view, the price is the biggest problem. What is it about the SRT/10 that justifies a sticker price that's roughly double of what you can buy a Hemi Dodge truck for? I understand a higher price for a limited production vehicle, but that's just, well.......forget it, I won't say it.   ::)

That's the same with HEMI cars back in the day too, wasn't the price tag on a HEMI about another third on top of the standard car price?
I know the ZL1 Cramaro's & Vette's were a little more than double, just for the engine. But of course, a ZL1 wasn't very streetable either.

I hear what you're saying though, this Viper engine isn't worth that big a difference. :P

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Its a shame DCX didn't just make it an option instead of its own model.  I will have one............someday. :yesnod: ;D

So are these trucks gonna be like the aero cars that sat on dealer lots for years and then 30 years later they will be highly sought after?

considering that in 30 years we'll all be driving around in Smart cars, PT might be making a valid point.

I tend to agree. Everything that's been said about the SRT10 so far sounds like a description of what happened with the '60s and '70s muscle cars, especially the aero cars. Hard to say for sure, and it's a helluva gamble to take with the prices they're asking. My money is on the Prowler for good resale at this point. But who knows.

some pre-2003 vipers (esp GTS coupes) are holding up their value. They still sell in the $60-70's.

Another line of cars to keep an eye on are early-mid 80's camaros(IROCS and Z28's) and firebirds (Trans ams). With a lot of the 60-70's muscle cars becoming unattainable, these cars are starting to become very appealing to some people.

Not to justify the cost but there is more to the SRT10 than just the Viper V10. The tranny is from the Viper, the brakes, suspension, wheels, tires, etc. are different. Plus, that Hurst shifter must be worth 5K alone.  ;)

IMO, the trucks with an overpriced window sticker for what you get is the Rumble Bee and the Daytona. Fortunately, they have the rebates and most dealers have heavily discounted them so they do sell.

But GM is going to be making brand new Camaro's in 2-3 years. I don't see what so special about the 80's -90's cars. The 60's very early 70's came with big strong motors and chrome bumpers and trim. The 80's and 90's have cheap chrome and plastic mirrors , grills. Many cars that are brand new today are nicer, so nobody is pay more than the cost of a new car $20,000 -$30,000, if that. Who's to say that 10-20 years from now the brand new car's and truck's will not be even nicer, faster and ride better ? The gas milage requirements are not changing yet for car's , and technology keeps getting better. Just cause some of the old cars went  up does not mean any cars from the 80's ,90's and 2000's will also.

Most often the things that will go up in value are what nobody thinks of, remember back in 1974-75 some cars that are worth $100,000 were selling for $3000-$4000 dollars as the gas was hard to get and people were dumping the gas hogs.

DCX is dropping the SRT-10 cause the gas milage requirements are going up for truck's so it is a maybe, a big maybe. Yes in 10 -20 years it could be worth a whole lot more than it is today but I would not bet the house on it.

seriously who needs a viper powered truck, especially with high prices nowadays. it might be fun truck to kick some ricers on the street (ha ha a truck smoking some ricers) but in reality no construction company would need fancy truck like that

Actually Silver, when a construction company bids on a project, they not only bid on price but they gurantee to get the job done in a certain timeline.

This truck would be a perfect vehicle for a construction company as they would be able to haul the lumber and drywall very quickly from the Home Depot to the job site.   :yesnod:

It's been done already and I don't believe it fit very well.  I think they had to move the firewall.  Read the story to be sure.

Wow thats more work than I ever could do-was thinking that the rad. might just have to move up front a little bit. Oh well another idea up in smoke-I bet it is a nice car once you spend  the $50,000 or so.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but I think the V10 will be gone now that the 6.4L 392 hemi is on it's way.  I'd say more, but I've already posted about it ad nauseum...
