I think that some of my wiring is shot.  I was wondering if there was a way to "hotwire" the motor from the engine bay by shorting a soleniod or something.  I just want to see if my motor actually turns over....  Thanks for any help...

I'm not sure exactly but the starter relay should be on the fiewall near the master cylinder.  It will have two heavy wires and two lighter gauge wires going to it.   Jump across the two heavy wires with a screwdriver to make the engine crank over.

It's not a midlife crisis, it's my second adolescence.

or jump the 2 wires on the starter with a screwdriver..if your trying to fire the engine you can attach a jumper to the ballast resistor from the batt + , or to the + side of the coil, keep in mind that if you run it long term (more than 5 min or so) without the ballast in the system you risk burning up the coil.
