That's cool information, thanks! :2thumbs:

One question...let's say there's a 20 degree temperature swing from a morning fillup to an afternoon fillup. How much actual difference in volume in the car's tank is there caused by expansion? Let's say a 15 gallon tank. Is it something like a quart, or more/less?

Sorry, one more question; does the floating roof in the ground tank also help keep down the condensation amount inside?

Oh & we're at $2.88 here at my cheap (yeah, right ::) ) watering hole in Salt Lake. :)

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

terrible one

Awesome information, I'll definitely be putting it to use!

By the way, $2.95/ 3.05/ 3.15 here on 11/9/07

the floating roofs are only in the big tanks at the terminals not in the ground tanks at the stations.
the gas tanks ina station have a suction pipe that is about 5 inches off the bottom so if there is any water in there you wont get it.if gas is delivered to the station dont buy it there untill later in the day.the temp. diff. would be about 1/8 of a gallon my guess. in new york gas is 3.23 for reg

I ran into a stuation earlier in the year. I was leaving on a trip the next morning and filled that night. The next morning I had gas all over the garage. It expanded and ran over........I was a lucky SOB that someting didn't ignite it.  :eek2:

Its getting tough for lots of different business's.

Its $3.15 for gas in my Kansas town. I think it may be time to mothball the old 440 powered pickup truck again as its getting 5mpg.

Headrope

$3.73/gallon for petrodiesel. Almost 21 cents/gallon of that is the state showing love to us Washingtonians.

Speaking of which: Where is the outrage for us diesel drivers? Politicians launched price gouging inquiries and threw a fit when their constituents had to start paying $3/gallon for gasoline. Petrodiesel has gone up almost $.50/gallon since then.
Sixty-eights look great and the '69 is fine.

At this point in time, I don't think I have any choice but to park my truck.  :icon_smile_angry:  The days of small businesses are truly numbered.  :Twocents:  :'(

You are exactly right!  While the price of fuel as got the railroads attention  they still control their price. We have a contract here in town to fill up our switch engines and they dont sell the railroad fuel at the price you get off road diesel for. They agree on a price that is much lower. Agree on so many gallons during a certaint ime frame. The fuel company has to stay on top of it because they can loose money if they agree on one price and they cant deliver it for that price. I have seen the delivery guys out on a sunday evening and I asked them why and it was because the price was gonna go up a few cents and they had to get the rest of the fuel sold for this contract.  I would be willing to bet some of the big trucking companies do the same thing.

Tough to complete when the little guy takes it in the shorts at the gas pump and the giants work out a deal to keep their costs down.
