Where does my fuel line go?

I tightened up the alternator belt today and noticed the fuel line passes between the alternator and the water pump, is this right? It seems like a really tight squeeze, the fuel filter sits just under the alternator and the whole line moves around really easily - I'm worried about it moving around in transit and getting knocked ( and split ) by something.  :-\

I'm assuming the line was modified at some time because the carby has been upgraded to a carter comp series - but I may be wrong...can any one confirm please... here are some pics...

I'm rather sure that the stock steel fuel line hugs the block very closely.  Whether the path that yours follows is correct I'm not sure of, but the fit will be close regardless...

Just 6T9 CHGR

:iagree: that is the stock routing for a big block 383-440 car with a vapor seperator

It looks correct to me.  As far as the looseness you describe, I believe there is a retainer that bolts to a stud somewhere  to hold it in place.  I'm sure someone will chime in  with an excellent pic of it.   You may have to search this forum as I believe someone has posted a pic already  :icon_smile_wink:of the fuel vapor canister located right directly above the fuel pump  and that particular photo will give you your answers without a doubt.

Thanks for the replies - I'll see if I can find it using the search... At least I know it's about right... :yesnod:

Thanks again guys, great pics...umm so is my 383 H code car supposed to have a vapor seperator or just the filter??  :-\

Just a filter on that 383 car from the factory. Some have added the seporator, and found it
helped with there problem, when the car was not running well at times like when they get real hot.
