It's time for my better half to get a new car.  We live out in the sticks and have to deal with snow and ice in the winter months.  Subaru's seem to be the most popular family vehicle around here and they've got a great following.  Safety is the main concern as we're not so young anymore and she rolled her current Voyager in snowy weather a few years back.  Everything I hear and read about the new Tribeca really indicates that they have some great technoligy in the traction control world.  I recently got a new Outback as my company car and and very impressed with it.  We looked at a new Pacifica Limited AWD today and I must say I was inpressed with all the bells and whistles.  With all the rebates and employee pricing going on now I could probably pick up the Pacifica for less than a Tribeca with all the same options.  BTW, I think the Tribeca is butt ugly, but MaMa thinks it's way too cute.  Any real world experience/opiions out there?   Bob

i like the subies too, but that Tribecca looks Gay...
there is a hipo Forester WRX i'd opt for that...
Pacifica is nice though but overweight like all the othe DCX products these days...
they did just give it a whole new engine that makes a whopping 5 more H.P...  :P
but in it's defence it has a 5 speed tranny...

bull

Subarus are the VW bus of the 00s. Stay away! At least there's a hint of 'cool' in the Pacifica.

you could go for the new cevy or gmc get900 it can get up to 22 mpg and thats with 4x4 and nexd year you can get a 6 speed and has the highest tow rating 10500 lb thats what id go with beeing that i use 4x4

Shakey

My Wife has the Pacifica with the AWD option.  We have vowed to always have either an AWD or 4x4 vehicle to deal with the Canadian winter.  You may only need it once or twice throughout the season, but it's worth it.

The vehicle is great.

i'd consider one but they're simply too big for my needs, now if i had kids it'd be a first choice..

There you go.  No ratings for the Tribeca yet, but the Pacifica was designed for safety.
I ain't got time for pain, the only pain I got time for is the pain i put on fools how don't know what time it is.

I suggest that you look at the Suzuki Grand Vitara.  Good car, not too big, 4 wheel drive, good milage and about $10,000 less that either of the two you mentioned.

It has air bags all around.  The only thing that is bad, is the dealer in Spokane is Wendel ;D Ford.

Actually, you will find a lot of loan companies will not finance the Suzukis.  I know their quality is a lot better than about 10 years ago, but a lot of finance and insurance companies have long memories.....

Pacifica would be my first choice, Tribeca is just too ugly for me....

Thanks for the feedback guys.  She wants to drive a Tribeca before taking things any farther.  She didn't like the small rear window on the Pacifica when backing up, but I don't think the Tribeca's is much bigger.  Al, my last Suzuki vehicle was a 1966 X6 Hustler 250cc motorcycle.  It was pretty quick, but was a throw away after about 8000 miles.  I sure they're quality control has improved in the last 40 years though.    Bob
