I need/wish to know what's the size and kind of bolt/thread of the bolt that attach the bracket to frame rail

C'mon guys... does nobody have rear sway bar here ?... just a pic of OEM bolt will help, telling me what size head bolt is...

Not that anyone listens to me but, I put a sway bar on my 68 Charger that I took
right off a 78 Dodge Aspen Police car. The bolts I took out of that car in 1980 were
original and correct. They are kind of a self tapping bolt on the first three threads
or so, if you have seen or have any of those bolts that hold the center caps on
the Magnum style wheels? that is about as close as I have ever seen to them
if not exactly the same. It has a 7/16 socket sized head to the bolt.

OK, so 7/16 sized head, and selftapping screw... Is a fine kind threaded bolt I suppose... Does it ?. I never have seen the magnum center caps screws

Maybe is similar used to gas and brakes ducts brackets ?

Does it have an incorporated washer on it or it has a "plain lip" on head ?

Head size is very important... I almost buy a 1/2 head size set of bolts, and that could oversized the hole on frame... bad. Thanks about that.

Nacho,

I just went and pulled an original bolt out of my 73 SE.  It has a 1/2" hex with an incorperated flanged head.  The flange is also a lock flange, it has  serrations under it.  I am working on the thread size.  They are 5/16" diameter x 3/4" long and seem to be fine thread, but I will find out exactly what they are tomorrow at work.  They are a tapered selftapping bolt.  Funny thing was after I cleaned the undercoating off the head it has a picture of an anchor in the center of the head. I will try to take a good picture of it. 

I noticed your bar has a bend in it.  Mine is straight across where it goes under the rearend.  I also have part #'s off my swaybar plates if you would like them.

Tha's not my sway bar just an ebay image... but Mine is NOS and also is bended at center... all depends of the angle you see it.

Those are the sway bar plates that I also need, to the isolated spring clamps kind. I found just the plain ones to the non isolated system so I need to addapt it, filling the space between clamp and plate with something.

Holy crow glad I saw this post.
I am working on a 73 right now and purchased a sway bar on e-bay. Was not sure how to attach it and thought perhaps the eyeholes at each end attached to the shocks. I am dead wrong no? So do I need to get those brackets. Are there 2 for each side?
Thanks for any help. I would love to get this sway bar on, since the whole rearend has been rebuilt and painted.

First you need to know if you car has isolated springs clamps or not... being a 73 maybe your one is the isolated kind.

As you are seeing all the assembly that you need at springs is this one:

on pic there is boths sides springs assembly, one to each side.

Mounted looks like this: ( it has missed the rear sway bar itself but the rod   is there, aslo shock absorver is removed )

You can notice also the rubber isolator between clamps and spring, that's the reason why is the ISOLATED KIND.

On frame rails ( at least on my 74 ) the holes to brackets are already opened to fit bolt them... you can see the frame brackets attached on rail already on 8wheeler pic at the right of pic. Probably, you car also has already opened the holes, clean that area and check, normally are hidden by undercoat and/or dust.

continuing with assemblies info, this is the not isolated kind, where sway bar assembly ( with rod ) is the same, and also frame brackets, but clamps are completely different and not interchangeable ( both lower and upper plates can't be mixed with the other one) because also axle housing pedestal is different to fit on Big hole to the isolated kind or small hole to the stud guide on spring itself. You can anyway modify with some job some parts.

all that I could find is NOS sway bars with original rubber and rod, because the OEM sway bar was sold with that

I am pretty sure the sway bar that I have that came out of that 78 Dodge Aspen Police
car is very different than the correct bar for a 3rd gen. The bolts that go into the frame
are the same shouldered bolt. I have an extra hole becuase I made a woops   :(
Also my bar is not strait, and the links I have are very short.

No, But I won't go for them... they are to Firewall and if they are the correct ones the head size is 3/8", too small for sway bar bracket purpouse

Well mine doesn't have any of those brackets, so what are my options. Is there just one bracket I need to find for each side or are there 2 like in the examples above. These are only used parts correct?

OK, then your car is the non isolated kind... the upper plate on the non isolated spring assembly is just to the sway bar. The ones that I bought/found were to that assembly, but I bought truting on seller... big mistake, now I have to adapt it

So can we assume that if you have a bent swaybar you will have shorter end links because the bend in the bar goes around the differential and if the bar is straight like mine you will have the longer links because it needs more room to go past the differential. ???

Dan, how much dii this additional layer of metal change your ride height?   Did this bar bolt right in, and how do you like it?  I find it a nice coincidence that the frame rails on both cars are thee same distance apart. (or close)

WOW I was not expecting to see this thread again, the sway bar plate is only about 1/4in thick maybe
a bit more so no it really does not change the rear end height that was done with the 1-1/2 lowering
blocks I made and put in there.
Yes I did notice an improvement for sure evan though it is a small bar. Yes I was surprised that it would
fit my B-Body, actually it surprised the guy at the junk yard more but I am not sure I ever took the car
back there to show them because they were ass$@les about the hole thing. They said it would never
fit well not only did it fit but I bolted it right in no mods at all 25yrs later still works great.

I didn't think to find this trheap ups again LOL...

Shame I couldn't install by the moments the sway bar, since plates I had to modify needs some extra job... the part where bolst the rods meets with axle tunnel so I have to heat it and give it a new shape.

I'm trying to install the non isolated kind to an isolated springs clamps kind with a separator to fill the clamp depression ( welding it to the plate ) but wasn't enoug to fit.

Some of you guys have an extra pair of isolated plastes kind ? like the ones posted by 1973WP29P

Yes I could fill the gap between clamp and plate, in fact I weld the piece on to the plate, the problem right now is not there, is that I DON'T KNOW WHY THE HELL the area of the plate that lift up to bolt the sway bar rod, HITS with axle housing.
