BAD DAY! Need to vent...

This week has been bad enough that I'm ready to go hide in a cave for a few years. Monday of this week there was a three alarm fire and three major traffic accidents in my town. One of those accidents claimed the life of a close friend of mine. ->Link To Newspaper Article<- Last night I spent 3 hours at her viewing and her funeral was today but I had to work and couldn't make it. In any case I left work early with plans to go to Mason Dixon Dragway with a friend. On my way home I got into one. I was driving a road that I have driven a thousand times. Since Danielle was killed I have been extremely careful about distracted driving. So on this road the speed limit is 40mph, I was going roughly 40-45, cell phone and radio both off. There is a particular curve that is very bad vision wise, almost a completely blind curve. As I round the curve there is a tractor-trailer backing into the hidden driveway and completely blocking the road. Off of instinct, I put both feet on the brakes and swerved right. Needless to say I did not completely avoid the trailer. The rear passenger corner of his trailer had contacted the front drivers side of my car. Drivers side headlight, hood, fender, A-pillar, windshield and door all destroyed. Judging from the bent A-pillar and radiator support the car will be totaled, this assumption was reassured by the tow truck driver. Police were called and an accident report was filed. Now it is just waiting on the insurance company.

I thank God I walked away without a scratch. Had I gone under the truck my friends and family would be attending the second funeral in a week. The day of Danielle's funeral I have almost the same accident (albeit to a lesser extent) and walk away unscathed. Why? I don't know but I will be in church on Sunday. But I just don't know what to do right now. I am a broke college student and this was my only mode of transportation. After today both my roommate and I are both without vehicles. Getting another car is going to be hard enough but the fact that my insurance is going to skyrocket is icing on the cake. I have some cash left in my Charger savings fund but that will most likely be used to buy another car. All in all there is a good chance I will be selling most, if not all of my parts and possibly the Charger itself. If you have made it this far, thank you for reading all of this. And for the God-fearing among you, please pray for Danielle's family, my family and me...

For me, there always seems to be peaks & valleys as far as the luck goes. You're just in a valley right now, but it won't last forever. Hopefully your insurance company will work well with you & you'll only be set back for a week or two.
The main thing is that you're ok, sorry things didn't work out the same for Danielle.

BTW, coming from a guy who's experienced a few valleys himself, only sell the Charger as a last resort. I almost sold mine 3 separate times. :-\

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

440+, man, I'm glad to hear that you walked away unharmed.

You, your family and the family of your friend definitely have my thoughts and prayers.

Hang in there, and don't sell the Charger unless you're up against the wall.

Hope things start lookin' up, and the insurance company goes easy on yah.

Well you can't bring anybody back so sorry about you losing a friend like that, there is nothing anybody can really say or do to make it better. Hope she will rest in peace.

Now on your little accident-you say the speed limit is 40 mph and thats the speed you where going. Was the road dry and during the day? If so I would ague that its the trucks fault for blocking all lanes of the road and not having flares, a sign ,maybe a person looking out. Sounds like he did nothing to warn anybody coming down the street. Not  sure how your state is, here in Michigan you can sue the other party for up to $400-big deal- but in some states it my be more. Your insurance should not go up if it turns out to be his fault and not yours. If you are the one who got ticketed I would go to court and fight it. How the heck were you to know all lanes of the road was block?   Good Luck to you and hope you start feeling better soon.

Hey guys,

First off I would like to say thank you for your thoughts and prayers. I have calmed down alot since Friday mostly due to alot of phone calls to close friends and your replies on here. My mom talked to our insurance agent today. He is a close friend of the family and I trust his advice. He told me to just sit back and wait for the accident report to go through and for the adjuster to look at the car. He also reminded my mom that our insurance plan has a rental car reimbursment plan, so I won't be completely immobile for more than a few days. I also spoke with another member of this site who recently had an accident with his Charger. Zentelis lives relatively close to me and is in need of parts, many of which I have and can sell without jeopardizing my restoration. Although I hate to gain anything out of someone else's hardships, selling these parts can be used towards replacing my daily driver should the insurance company screw me. Zentelis and I are both in rather inconvenient circumstances but we will both be alot better off through this deal. Although I'm not out of the woods yet things are beginning to look up. The Charger won't be going anywhere soon (however the parts car might ;) ) Thanks again for the support guys!

Well I finally got some pics of the Lumina today. Though it doesn't look too bad I am extremely lucky, this accident could have been much worse. But on to the good news. I spoke with my insurance adjuster tonight and he seems to believe that it is the truck driver's fault but we will have to see what comes of the investigation. :icon_smile_big: (For those of you that make your living with a CDL, I work shipping and thus work with many truck drivers. I understand that things are alot harder for you guys than they are for us "four wheelers". But this revelation takes some of the blame off me and hopefully will lessen my parents' anger over this situation.) Also the adjuster recommended that my parents and I collect on our collision insurance and they will collect from the trucker's insurance after the investigation is over, so I may have another vehicle sooner than I had first thought. Anyway, pics...
