I took the day off yesterday to take my family and my sister's family who are in town from AZ to Manhattan, NYC South Street Seaport to see this exhibition called Bodies. There are 22 real human beings (cadavers) and over 250 organs from other cadavers that have been treated with acetone and a polymer to preserve the flesh/muscle and tissue. I have to say that it was impressive. They show you all the functions of the body and the different organs and explain what they do in laymen's terms. They also show you organs that were diseased due to cancer and other common illnesses, again everything in normal language that anyone can understand. These bodies are all from China - no info on the cadavers so there is controversy on the origin of these bodies. The official statement is that they are recovered and unclaimed bodies from a medical facility in China. My immediate thought was that they were all anti-government demonstartors. Anyway, this exhibition will be going around the nation and if you get a chance, you should consider going. Our bodies are really amazing!! You are right up next to the cadavers that have been positioned to exposed the different muscle at work. There is another display where a human has been sliced like white bread to show the different layers and location of the organs. There is a section for "reproduction organs" both male and female - again amazing!

As soon as you walk into the exhibition, you smell something different!   :o

I saw the 'original' exhibit Body Worlds(the one you saw is a copycat competitor) when it was at the L.A. Science Museum. Pretty cool stuff, though I wouldn't suggest eating lunch right before going in.

There was some controversy about where the bodies came from for Body Worlds, but apparently it was verified that they had all been donated to science by the people themselves before they died.

Wow! Mojo did not know there was another group showing bodies too! Sounds like the same type of exhibition, but no artistic representation with the bodies in the NY group thou.

I cant remember what the one I saw was called but it was neat! You got to see the bodies in different poses like running, jumping, etc so you can see what your insides look like while doing these types of things.

That's the Body Worlds exhibit.

It's currently in Houston and will be until sometime in September.

Planning on going before the show leaves.

They are all late comers compared to the Fragonard Museum in Paris (LINK).
