since im now unemployed, and not really fond of having to let somebody else controll all of my fate i am buying a karaoke machine with around 10,000 songs loaded in it.I am calling myself "supercharged karaoke" I already owned a pro pa system, and will also be doing some DJ shows in the future and small scale production for smaller bands. I already have a weekly show commited that will pay back my investment in 8 weeks. so from a financial point of view it was kinda a no brainer. what other buisness can you buy and pay off after less than 50 hours of work? (and not have to report the income)

That sounds cool. But you know, the self employed's fate is routinely decided by his customers, and with a karaoke business you'll be working lots of nights and weekends. Not trying to p#$$ on your Corn Flakes but we all have to answer to someone. The graphic is very nice. Who created it?

I have to admit im not sure who did the artwork, I found the origional pic with a background on my pc then i just whited out the background and added the text and border. i know i saved it from someplace on the web, thats way beyond my artistic talent.  I am used to the entertainment buisness working nights and weekends.I have done production work with bands, and helped my buddy with his karaoke shows the last 2 years. the weekly show i have setup will be thursday nights, and working on a tuesday or wednesday. i will still have lots of saturday shows with the bands as im now working for a production company that the bands have now gone to. I would prefer to take karaoke shows on those nights as i make about 2x as much and have alot less gear to hump but ill take what i can get. its all cash pay (hugh no uncle sam i did that for fun i didnt get paid) and i will collect unemployment bennifits for as long as im out of a regurlar job, or at least 6 months.  i think the economics will be takin a crap again, and when the econmy goes bad people spend more at the bar (go figure) so bars have more$$ to spend on entertainment to keep them there longer and take more of the little money thay had to begin with. I know it doesnt make sence but ive seen and heard it all my life.

Well not to get your hopes up too much but entertainers are one of the highest paying jobs out there. But its not easy and it helps to "know" the right people sometimes. You sound up beat about it and thats good, you can't give up. Keep trying your best and hopefully you do well. Good Luck to you.

True story, listen to Bull's advice. Self employment (did it for over 16 yrs) has alot of perks (some freedoms, scheduling for yourself, the feeling you get building the business from nothing, etc.) but it also has as many drawbacks (your customers are every bit your boss that that old guy behind the desk used to be, you owe your customers your job. The work you turn in is a personal statement of you. Trust me, there are several others; almost no family life or time for yourself either & on and on) but overall, I'd do it again. You do have to be above average in self discipline and organizational skills and willing to sacrifice some fun/or unimportant things to make it work. You cant afford to start feeling that you are an island and not needing anyone else (you get taught humility real fast!) Good luck to you!

more or less, im seeing this as a good part time job. I do expect to get a new full time job in the future, but by starting this up now while im unemployed i have the time to build up a name. most people around here who do karaoke have the worst sounding crap for sound that ive ever heard. ther is 1 other guy who books in town who has good equipment, and the friend who im buying the player and music from. my friend has a regurlar weeknight gig , and one or 2 weekend shows a month, and thats all he really wants. if he gets calls for other shows he will be giving them my # now.i dont expect that to happen much, but it will happen im sure.  I have a ton of contacts in town, and the surrounding area and i know that will help a bunch

Don't brag too much about not reporting the income. The IRS doesn't like that too much.

I would report it if I were you. I know quite a few full time musicians that went years without declaring and it caught up to them.

I agree. If you get paid with checks it is likely you will get 1099's in the mail next January.

Plus, once the owner of that artwork finds out you've used his or hers design without permision, that opens up a whole other can of worms.  :yesnod:

yeah the artwork deal kinda sux. i like the pic , but being i have no idea whose it is to ask him i guess im guna have to find something different. that one was bothering me a bit.ooh well ,  ill still keep the name n find a photo or something around. that superbee isnt super charged any way.
as for the money situation, if for some reason i managed to make more than i spent this year i would be forced to report it, but for this year at least i can wright it off as a hobby, being i will have spent more than ill make most likely.
