Cars IN barns that are maintained is one thing. These people that leave them in a field rotting away and won't sell them need to be shot!!

I checked out an old truck a few years back. It was in a field behind a barn in Florida. I knocked on the door of the dump, I mean house. A guy about 35-38 answers the door. I told him I was interested in the old truck. He went on to tell me how it was his GrandPappy's truck and how it was his pride and joy. How he tinkered with it all the time and taught all his family how to drive in that truck. He said his GrandPappy died when he was in high school and his momma put the old truck out behind the barn to die with Grandpappy.
I asked if he thought his GrandPappy would want to still be living and if he thought he would want his pride and joy to carry on?? He just gave me a stupid look and went in the house.    :icon_smile_dead:

I know of a few others here in KY that are slowly rotting away. There's a Challenger about three miles from me. The car has been sitting for about 20 years. The guy finally put a cover on it because so many people asked him to sell it. The guy will die before the car ever gets restored.

I can see everyone's points of view, but you need to remember that it is their car after all, so they can do whatever they want with it.  There have been quite a few posts on this subject where someone advocates "removing" the car from the property.  That is vehicle theft and should not be done, reguardless of what type of car it is (Is a rough hemi car body really worth losing your life?).  A few years ago, I had people try this with a couple of my cars and my guard did shoot at them (it is private posted property with warning signs stating the fact of bullets flyiing at all tresspassers- all legal in that area).  He ended up getting their tools and their gas can after they failed to come back and retreive them.  In the incedent, he accidentially shot one of my junk fenders on my 70 RT, but that can be fixed (it happened at night and the car was black).  As for why some of the carsinbarns cars are found to be in bad shape, I have known people to take mint musclecars and turn them into junk after a night of drinking and driving (back in the day), demo derbies, pratice for demo derbies, and DOH imitations.  A lot of the project cars that you find out in the fields where I live had reasons why they ended up where they were.  As for people that won't sell a car to you, you need to be tactful in your pursuit and occationally visit with $$$ to show them.  If you don't do that, most of the time, you won't get the car........

I would never advocate, nor do I think anyone here would, the theft of any cars or parts. Obviously what people do with THEIR cars is up to them. It just sucks that people would rather watch something decent rust away rather than do something, (ANYTHING), to try to preserve it.  Sure they own it,, but why just let it rot away laying on the dirt?? Why NOT let someone that CAN restore it buy it and restore a piece of history??

Rust to Dust is not the answer..  :flame:

In this day and time I am not overly suprised about people not wanting to sell ther cars. :eyes:
I am so used to hearing about people not wanting to sell that my skin has toughened up to the point of "I DON'T CARE ANYMORE!"
