73 Charger 440

Hey guys,

I ordered a Carter fuel pump for my 440 last summer, its the street version. I have been preparing the 440 to go into the Charger since yesterday (still gotta paint engine bay but decided to put a little work into the engine such as test mounting the alternator and power steering pump)...

When I try to install the fuel pump, if I put it so that the connections are below the "arm" which attaches to the block, then it wont fit because of the pushrod (the part which rides on the pushrod is upside down)... If I flip the pump upside down it wont fit because it hits the head. Anyone have a picture of this or a similar pump installed? The box says M6903 which appears to be the right part, could the pump inside just be the wrong one (didnt find part numbers on it)...

Thanks in advance.

This is when of those occasions when you have to "force it" Rememebr that rod is pushing against the SPRING force behind the arm. depending on where the cam lob is you may have to really push in on it to get the bolts to threa...or course you could try turn the crank over to to relieve some of the tension

Good luck

P.S. fuel inlets are on the BOTTOM

Thanks for the advice guys... I took a break and got it installed, when I was trying to push the pushrod back in, (I had been turning the motor over to get it all the way back in) I was putting too much pressure on it and that was preventing it from going, instead all it takes is a lift with a finger nail and it easily slides. Thanks again:)
