i was wondering what you guys think is a better ignition box the 8000 rpm chrome mopar or the 6AL msd.

     Thanks

I can tell you that many say the 6AL box from MSD is better. I ran the Mopar stuff and changed to the billet MSD distributor and the 6AL box because of the built in rev limiter. They work great and I will never go back to the Mopar box.
If it ain't wide open; it ain't running.        Rule number one in motocross racing: Pin it; row the gear box; and wait until you hit something.     At work my motto is: If you need me, call someone else.

There's almost no comparison.  The chrome box from MP doesn't offer multi-strike, the same output, or the rev limiting features of the 6AL.

The MSD carries a considerably higher price tag but then again, they are very diffferent animals so you can't really compare costs either.

And while supply's last the 7al is like $150 more and has a even stronger spark. Its no longer being made but Summit and jegs still have some, now MSD has the 7al plus which is like the MSD 7al 3 and cost about the same $575 or so. Thats too much and most motors don't need it. Maybe they still are making the plain 7al but its not in their new catlog. Seems like it would have been sold out by now.

alright so i will definatley go with the 6al after what ive heard but should i still use the mp distributer or a differnet one.  thanks

The MP distributor isn't a bad piece.  Obviously something like a billet one from MSD is going to have more to offer but it again carries a much higher price tag.  What is your main purpose for the car?

The MP distributor works just fine. The new version is now buit by Mallory and can be easily tuned with the mallory tuning kit. Not as pretty as the MSD billet stuff but works just as good, inmo. I have an old MP unit on mine that was recurved and the signal was rock solid at 6500 when it was on the dyno.
