1968 Charger R/T Disc Brakes

I just bought a 1968 Dodge Charger RT which happened to have disc brakes.  I bought the car just to turn around and sell it.  But before I sold it, I wanted to remove the front disc brakes and put them on my 1969 Charger.  It has Bendix brand calipers.  My question is, can these be rebuilt? or should I turn them in for cores and get replacements?  How rare is it to have a '68 Charger RT with disc brakes?

Yes!  Your calipers can be rebuilt or you can just swap them out for ones that are already rebuilt IF you can find them.  Most places do not have the 4 piston calipers in stock so you need to send yours to them to get redone.

I found a place here locally that said they had them for $170 after a $30 core. W/O a core... $200 each. Seems kinda high to me... what do you think?  They are the Bendix brand, do that is good.

I had that Bendix set up on my 69 Charger.These calipers were mounted only on  the 66-69 B-body cars,so is not easy to find replacement or parts for them.
Even The pads are hard to find in these days.
They only were mounted three years,cause they were prone to piston leaks and corrosion.
In 1970 they were substituted for single calipers.
A1 Cardone still work with  them,at least they still appear on his Parts lists.

$200 a side is about the going rate for them.

This is the reason just about everybody is getting 73 A-Body disc brake setups. The 66-69 4 piston
setups are getting rare, hard to find a shop that can re-sleeve them, and hard to find parts.

But it sounds like you found the parts for a good price,.

Is this a rare option on a 69 Charger?  I just bought a 383-4bbl car with 727 and a lot of options for a non-SE car.  So many that the car had a second trim tag but it is now missing, and no build sheet to be found to use for having a replacement tag stamped. I knew it had disc brakes but when I pulled the wheel I saw a two piston caliper (just found out today).  Were there also single piston calipers on 69 Chargers, or is this the only caliper that was offered?  I am trying to see if this is one of those braggin-right things or "just another disc brake optioned car".

Not all that common in 69 and no single piston calipers.

The only thing available disc brake wise in 1969 that was factory optional was the Bendix 4 piston design for the B bodies.  I am not familiar with the 2 piston that you are talking about unless you are only looking at the one side of the caliper, as each side has 2 pistons.  In 1970, the switched to the single larger pistion that was more reliable and seemed to be less prone to leaking.

Yeah, thats what I meant.  2 pistons showing on one side.  Looking at them I can see that they are actually 4-piston (2 on each side of caliper).
