I've got a 750 weber/edelbrock carb on my basically stock 383.  My question is, what should the big vaccum port in the front center of the carb go to?  How about the manifold vaccum?  Right now i've got the center front vaccum line going to the pcv valve and the manifold vaccum to the brake booster.  When i pull either of them off, so i loose vaccum, the rpm go up and the engine sounds better.  --does this make sense?  Maybe my locic is a little screwy, but when you loose vaccum, shouldn't your rpm's drop?

Goes to the PCV valve on your valve cover.  i took mine off and run a breather. Check to see if your PCV is clogged or you need a new one.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

okay, i pulled out the pcv when the engine was running, and i am getting some vaccum through it, but it's not nearly as strong as right off of the carburetor.......does that mean my pcv is shot??

if it's still hooked to the hose and to the carb and you are getting vac through it, it could still be good, disconnect it at the carb and plug the carb hole with your thumb,. what does the engine do then.   how does the pcv look, shake it and if it's not all gummed up, you will hear it go up and down. could be time to change it anyway cause they get clogged, you might not have a problem at all.
do you have a vac gauge, if so run it into the manifold tee and report what you are reading.
is the car running poorly or something, i'm just trying to figure out what your real question is.  if the question was big port off carb, then that goes to pcv, if your question is rpm increase when hoses off, i don't know, we need some more info.

i'm going to find you my thread from a while back that will explain a lot,  firefighter and grouseman have some theories about vac on the carb.   i run breathers now.  curious to know what you are reading for constant vac though.  if the vac gauge is erratic, then you most likely have a leak somewhere other than what you are looking at.
stand by for the thread.
