I am an engineer at KME Fire Apparatus ( www.kovatch.com) who manufactures some of the best fire apparatus in the world.  I work specifically with the aerial division.  In all my other spare time I'm also a volunteer firefighter for my hometown ( www.palmertonfire.com )

Cool- I'm on the Brookline NH Fire Dept (strictly small town call dept.- only one fulltimer) and three of our last four trucks have been KME's. They have for the most part been trouble free, and have served us well.

That pretty cool!  The trucks KME manufactures today have come a long way from when they first started.  Palmerton is even more small town..all volunteer and no paid staff.

I was an operator/oiler on this new 360ton mobile hydraulic crane before I got hurt.

Current premature retirement.  I hate it...would love to do somethin' to keep me busy.

230' (MAX) of luffing jib in this shot.  At a radius of 245' we were good for a little over 15k.  Crane has 192,000lbs. counterweight here also.  Could put 248,000lbs. (MAX) but with this configuration it's all structural anyways.

We had one of those at the refinery not to long ago..it was used to help put coking drums together..We had another one that was insanely huge....the cost to just put it together cost Exxon 1 million..and 10,000 an hour to operate...Sorry for no pictures but there is no cameras in the plant allowed and I probably would be sent to federal prison if I got caught :P
Earth. Even the word sounded strange to me now... unfamiliar. How long had I been gone? How long had I been back? Did it matter? I tried to find the rhythm of the world where I used to live. I followed the current. I was silent, attentive, I made a conscious effort to smile, nod, stand, and perform the millions of gestures that constitute life on earth. I studied these gestures until they became reflexes again. But I was haunted by the idea that I remembered her wrong -Solaris

CharlieCharger, right on.  That must have been a monster.  We would get $30k to move downtown which is about 10 miles from our yard and depending on jib and counterweight configuration it was up to $595 @ hour.  That was '03 so I'm sure they've raised the rates.
We had a 308 Demag that is prolly the biggest mobile lattice boom crane in the Northwest.  They'd get $50-80k to move up to Seattle.

I know how it is with cameras.  I was the picture taking fool when I was in the field but any kind of mill or refinery was a big no-no.
Was the Exxon crane a hydraulic or lattice rig?  Crawler?  It didn't happen to be painted blue?

If you go to here, a lot of these pix are ones I took.  http://www.campbellcrane.com/index.php

It had actually no tracks it was a set up with just stabilizers on huge steel plates..the stabilizer feet measured somewhere in the range of 20 feet wide..it wasnt mobile by any means but it was a huge monster.there was hydralic rams on the front but thats all I saw I didnt see them put the whole thing together..was suppposed to be upwards in 300 feet long we had to shut the whole unit down and get the fire crews out to put the first section up..so it was exciting to say the least..it was painted yellow..

A custodian at the first million dollar high school in the U.S. Built in 1931 and houses 1700 students on a daily basis. I maintain the bldg (with the help of 10 others) and I work with L.D students .....they sorta help. The money isn't too bad benefits are pretty good and I been there 14 years and counting. It is warm in the winter and hot in the summer. (when the kids are gone so is our AC :flame:) At least I get all the free food I want when school is in session. Our school is the base kitchen for half the schools in the city. Should get a least a 2% raise this year. (equals a tank of gas)I don't work too hard so when I get home I can work on cars. I also score deals from the school auto shop from time to time when they can't fix them or don't want to. I'm glad the ole lady works at a law firm and make double what I do :icon_smile_big:
