I service and repair Elevators and Escalators in buildings, apartments, Malls, Hospitals, homes, etc...  Not a bad job, always on the road, believe it or not, very much like working on cars.  Years ago I did work on cars as I had my own repair shop, but kids came and I became a Mr Mom, and even owned and drove a school bus, but when they got older, I went into the Elevator business for Insurance and good pay.

If most elevators are like in the bldg. I work then I know your busy......and probably on call.
Some of my customers make the smart remark that I should have an office in the building as I'm there so often.  My comment is, Modernize your 1965 Elevator and you'll see me less.  The guys I work with don't want the OT, so I take all I can handle, helps pay for the money pit, I mean Charger. :icon_smile_big:
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

I hear ya on the 65 model. They put in a freight elevator at work and it was like 15 years ago and it has broken down at least once a month and as often as 2-3 times a week. I am not sure if my boss is bs-ing me but he said it was close to a million dollars because it is hydraulic and the shaft had to be placed so deep since it goes 3 levels? The original one lasted like 60 years and about killed a guy when it fell.... :o

I don't think a million dollars, but yes, hydro pistons go in the ground as high up as they go.  I have some jobs that have pistons 7 stories in the ground.  Prices are all over the place, but we modernized a 8 floor duplex ( 2 elevators) traction (cables) elevator with all new equipment throughout, a couple years ago and it was 180,000.  Gives you a closer idea.

I do a bunch of different stuff under a small corporation I own. Mostly product and graphic design. I manufacture stuff as well and sell it. Mostly 'collectible art toys' and clothing lines.  limited edition prints, stuff like that.Just did a bunch of shoes. Sometimes I do 'fine art'commisions . Sometimes I do commercial ad work , if the $ is good. Just put out a new book of my latest stuff. I used to own a print shop and a record label. Got tired of the music biz 20 years was enough so I shut it all down back in 2001 to just do my own thing. Thinking about setting up a small hot rod shop with a couple of guys this year as a side project...we'll see.

basically 'full time artist/entrepenuer' since 1985.before that I was in the air force.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?
