I'll start a topic making somekind of compilation about wiring I have collected and diagrams made by me to help on wiring stuff to members... I'll be making new wiring diagrams day by day and posting. Some diagrams have been posted but I think is better have them on just one only thread.

I'll start with one I just made for Daytona guy... 72 underhood wiring. This will work also to Dodge Charger Guy and some more members.

I'm not including some extra wiring and stuff that some cars came different depending of USA state was sold or assemblied, like some weird emission controls stuff on California cars, is just the basic wiring.

We have to think that some years wires were turned around on plugs but colors were the same, so be sure wires colors match between engine bay harnesses and back of bulkhead.

I don't know where it runs the horn wire, if is taped together with engine harness or not so I didn't make the end of the line, just labeled. On 73 and 74 the starter relay yellow wire is located on engine harness, same as the brake warning light switch coming from the brake fluid dist block so be sure where really is the cavity used for every function on back of bulkhead.

Olive wire between ballast and Ignition module is not used on 4 pins newer Modules and in fact with 4 pins modules set up upgrade the ballast used is single one, but original wiring and stuff is to 5 pins modules and double ballast resistors

points motor is similar with Ignition Module exception... will be next step after I finish all the 72 underhood diagrams

Front lightning harness... this is the same to 71 and 72 HOWEVER, parking lights plugs are different between both. 71 use rubber L shaped plug with bullet terminals, same as distribuitor plug, and 72 use regular spade terminals on T shaped plugs

Parking lights and fender top turning lights take negative from chassis.

Splicing wiring points are not exactly than ilustrated, but close.

What is the black box that the big red wire goes to that then turns into a blue fuseable wire? What do I need to make the transition from a red big wire to the blue fuse wire that then goes to the starter relay?

the starter relay has a big stud with 9/16" nut what is commonly used like a big splice point... blue fuse link and Red wire coming from batt have a big eyebolt terminal that attachs on that stud.

I still haven't finished with starter relay functions since another harness has to do also on that relay.

Originally the fuse link is blue and is just a section that becames on a regular wire that ends on plug however I know some replacements fuse links are Red instead Blue and they are just one complete piece from eyebolt up to bulkhead plug.

Don't worry. I will post some diagrams that will explain better functions of every color wire... Today I won't post anything because I have job all day long.

My car is a 1972 Charger (Spring Green Topper) with Air, rally Dash and fender turn signals and Tach. Clearly my wires seem different than your diagram.

This is my bulkhead connectors bellow - Notice that my brake warning light is on my engine harness bulkhead, and on your it is on the Headlight harness - and I think my long black soft wire (that is factory taped together with a green wire that comes from the small trany bulkhead harness) and I am guessing is the wire that turns the Air compressor on?

On my Headlight Harness, I have the green/red wire that goes to the horn. Other than that I think they are all the same.

If mine is all screwed up - let me know?? Sorry about the size of pics

I really was based on 71 diagram what suposselly is the same than 72 except for Electronic Ignition, so it is posible anything also talking about different models, packages and options. Since I was supossing 72 is mostly the same than 71 then I could make a mistake on that but for a while you have identified every wire on back of bulkhead and matches with underhood wiring, everything is good... On my car, the black to brake warning and yellow to starter relay are on engine harness and same as you, horn is on front lightning harness

Now, about that black wire where suppose to be the tach wire if is equpipped... I don't know, we will need to check where arrives on underdash harness.

Thanks Nacho-RT74 - What is clear to me now is that all of these wire harnesses are not interchangeable. I will check under-dash wires to make sure they match. You are doing a lot of work and you deserve a big THANKS.

Not completelly true since every wire is same long no matter the plug where is located. You can with extremelly minor job like just interchange wire/terminals assembly from plug to plug and make it work... OR changing female terminal on back of bulkhead from cavity to cavity, what I think is easier since you won't need to break the tape and retape the harnesses.

Really Not big deal.
