Hi, do I have to degree a new camshaft? I bought a MP purple shaft with .474 lift, with recommented install centerline at 106, and I installed it straight up. I put a dial indicator on the intake lifter, and my centerline number was all over the map. I think the dial tip is moving around on the lifter. Can I just run the camshaft straight up? Do I really gain a lot by besure it is installed at 106 centerline? These numbers is killing me.

You don't have to but I can't imagine not doing it.  Once you've done it, it isn't difficult and the only thing it costs you is time.  The performance gains can be large depending on how accurately the cam was ground.  If it's perfect, all you've done is to verify it.  But if it is off, you are saving yourself a lot of performance headaches once you start tuning.

I am having trouble fitting the dial indicator over the lifter, there's not enough room to fit the indicator in to keep it align with the lifter. I was think about super glue a piece of metal to one of the old lifter, so I can place the dial on the outside but still allign with the lifter. Does anyone have a better solution to this?
