G'day guys,

a while ago I bought a Gull Wing (Go Wing) for my 71 Superbee from First Place Auto Reproductions.

I stuck it straight on the car, but I was wondering if it's supposed to be a particular finish, or if it's fine to leave it the finsih that it is ?

I'm not astickler for absolutely original finsihes, but are you meant to paint them or what ?

It is up to you, some will leave it "original', and others will paint it simi-flat black.  Not entirely flat, not glossy black, but in the middle.  If the finish looks good, I would leave it jsut the way I took it out of the box.  I don't know of anyone with an NOS from back in the 1970's to confirm how they were out of the box 30 years ago.   Just my opinion.

I'm pretty sure they were left in teir natural finish but I agree, if you aren't a stickler for original, do whatever looks best to you.

Thanks for that.

I was a little undecided because it looks OK in the finish it is now (out of the box). I just didn't want people looking at it saying "Geez, you'd think he would have put some paint on it".

There's no other ones down here to compare to. I'm coming to the States next year to visit the Nats.....I'll have a good look at everyone elses then.

I think it looks just as good either way.  I think the other car makers that used any sort of gull wing painted them so don't be surprised if you do get a few comments.
