Since my trans is out for a performance rebuild and I bought a new B&M cooler and 2-1/2 qt bigger pan I was thinking of going ahead and putting a trans temp gauge in. Where is the best place to install the sender? I have seen them in the fluid line and in the pan. Is there another place that the sender can be installed?

Location for the sender depends on what you want to know, if you want to know the maximum temperature the fluid reaches, install the sender in the front cooler line where it exits the transmission.

If you're interested on keeping an eye on the fluid operating temperature, install the sender in the pan.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Thanks John! I guess I will be installing it in the pan.
