I'd give $50, maybe be persuaded to go to a bill. I know of a '71 440 complete for $300, I sure wouldn't buy one that needs heads, oil pan, and has thrown a rod. And, since it's a New Yorker engine, it's not going to be the top of the line 440.

i agree $50, that block or  crank might be no good. you gotta check it. Rene

are you sure the the thing threw a rod? looks to me like they took the cap off to show you what shape the crank is in.  look closer. i dont need one, but, come on give the guy a break! give the guy an honest opinion. i'd say if it looks good, at least in my area, couple hundred is what its worth.

that is an honest opinion. the guy says it needs a rod. what does that mean to you? you have to go look at that motor and know what your looking for. Rene

True, region has an effect on price. While not laying around in every redneck's front yard (like a 302), 440's a relatively common, easier to find than pretty much any BB engine of any make around here, and fairly cheap for the ones I've found. I've passed up on several, both engines alone, and a '66 Fury III equipped with a 440TNT that the guy wanted a $1000 for. Nice car too.  But where some people live, the blocks can get on up there; I've seen 383 2bbl ask for over $1000 in magazines and Evilbay.
