Were louvers on 71 b bodys a coded option (production) or were they a dealer installed option? If production, where/what would the code be? Thanks!

as far I know since is part of R/T package, so I don't think is coded on Fender Tag. When you didn't have the louvers then you could get the rammed hood, then that will be coded... doesn't ? I'm I right ?

I agree with Nacho - standard R/T included lovered doors, tail lights & hood insert and wouldn't be coded. Maybe noted on the broadcast sheet?

I can't find a mention of louvers for the Charger in the April 1971 Models and Prices book. They're coded A44 for the Challengers in the same book and, oddly, are listed as NA in Pennsylvania. A45 was the front and rear spoiler package on the Chargers so the numbering makes sense. Were the louvers pulled as an option prior to April or introduced after April for the Chargers?

I was assuming the question was about rear window louvers.

Yes, the rear window louvers, not the door louvers. The door louvers were standard trim on R/T models in 71. My question was for the rear window louvers.

My bad. With a car that has that many louvers you need to be more specific.  ;)

I couldn't find the rear window louver listed as an option on the option sheet either. The only place I've ever seen the option listed is in the Rapid Transit catalog. On the 71superbee site it is listed as code A44 as well.

A44 was the code for louver package on the Challenger. I don't think that code was used for B bodies.

In fact I was thinking you mean HOOD louver insert LOL, that's why I mentioned Rammed hoods.

Doors louvers are not just installed pieces, are simply different doors, same as tail lights from standarts ones, and as stated, part of R/T package.

Now, Rear window louvers... It should be coded I think. Not too many around. I'm not expert on codes, sorry, No fender tags or buildsheets down here.

Codes were the same for all Mopars, not diferences on bodies. Bodies difference is stated on VIN but fender tag and buldsheet codes are the same.

There is a difference between the A67 Barracuda louver package and the J68 Satellite louver package. It looks like the full vinyl top was required with the Barracuda and not available with the Satellite.

maybe that's because different conditions and trim parts needed to get louvers on both bodies ???. I have seen on Cuda-Challenger forum board and our old Board where we had the codes on tech section, and both codes list were exactly the same.

As far as the 71 rear window louvers. They ARE EXTREMELY RARE!The guys at dayclona.com sells a kit that is really almost a dead ringer of the factory set-up.............but your gonna pay dearly! They cost I beleive around $1500.00-$1700.00 dollars.
There is a guy that sells a set-up on ebay, but his don't look like factory but looks o.k and he sells his for about $300.00 to $350.00 or so.

1971 Louvers were a dealer installed option and in very short supply.  I purchased the one off of ebay ($350) for my 1971 and they look more like the Cuda/Challenger louvers of 1970/1971. I will  upload a photo later. I did see in a Mopar magazine that a company makes a fiberglass repo, don't know the cost.

I thought J68 was the Sales Code for the "Backlight Louvers"?

I had seen the package A44 Sales Group / package for the Challenger in the books before, but I had assumed that it was still possible to check off the right box and get just the rear Louvers on other models (or the Challenger, for that matter) where the A44 S/C wasn't applicable.  Was this not the case?

What we've been able to determine is therer were at least three different rear window louver codes: J68 was the code for 71 Satellites, A44 for the Challenger and A67 for the Barracuda. We haven't been able to find out what the code is for 71 Dodges. It could be J68; it's just that no one has produced documentation.

Maybe the guys over at Dayclona.com can answer our questions!Since they have a great looking(yet expensive)repro of the originals they may have an original car with an original set up they used as a reference...........just my  :Twocents:
