I'm having trouble and need help. I have a '97 jeep grand Cherokee that the rear hatch doesn't open. I'm trying to get to the problem by removing the door panel but I roke it trying to take it out. When I get to the problem what do I need to do to fix it?  It looks like the latches are rusted shut. The linkage moves but doesn't unlock the door.

I had similar problems on my passenger door with lock linkage. Was stucked somehow and even got bended link once I was traying to lock. Just remove assembly, cleaned and greased and everything worked fine.

That is some of the stuff that you never know where exactly fails but greasing all the assembly will be fixed

You can't reach in there and manually activate the release with a screwdriver?  Make sure you douse it in PB Blaster or similar overnight if it's that badly rusted.  How did it get so bad?
