Went to buy some fireworks this afternoon, and as I was leaving the parking lot, I felt a little playful, so I decided to leave some black marks.

Right as I hit the gas, I heard a THUNK from the enginebay/drivers side wheel well.  Oh, shit....  Stopped, checked the engine.  No smoke, everything looks intact.  Whew...  Checked the front suspension, nothing was broken, so I got back in my car, and limped her on home.

Turns out, I broke a damn motor mount.  Oh, joy.

That sucks. How much money does it cost to fix that? And what does fixing a motor mount entail (is that the word... entail?)?

Sounds like a real PITA.

8WHEELER

My wife has broken two of them in her 68 RT Charger all stock, scares the hell out of her when the
air cleaner slams into the hood, then slams back down. I have never broken one myself in 28yrs and
many big block mopars in the past, go figure..........

The cost is no problem, getting to all the bolts can be a real pain though, its not a fast job, but not real hard.
At least your fan, did not take out your fan shroud  :icon_smile_big:  seen that several times  :rotz: :rotz:

Over the years I've found stomping on the throttle to be an effective method of bringing many mechanical problems to the forefront. :icon_smile_big:

I figure the 273 was saying "I am half out now replace me!"

Why is it that all the fun things in life can - and usually do - end up resulting in something bad?

Punch the gas pedal, fun as hell... POP! There goes an engine mount.

It's the same way with food. Double Whataburger with Cheese, fries, and a large Dr. Pepper... POP! There goes an artery!

Oh you can press the gas pedal down gently or eat an apple, but where's the fun in that?

Why can't someone invent something fun that even if something goes "Wrong" it results in something good?

Or what always worked for my 440 4 speed, a piece of chain that's the perfect length. Put it in with a new motor mount. Or spend a little $$$ for the Shumacher one's that don't rip.
"Let me explain something to you, um i am not Mr. Lebowski, you're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the dude, so that's what you call me. That or his dudeness, or duder, or you know, el duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing."

I have probably broke 5-6 mounts in my 71 in the 19 years I have owned it.   Its about due to break another one.   ^-^

Get a floor jack and a 2x4 piece and take an ever so slight lift on the oil pan and the mount should come out if you can get to the bolts. I would imagine on the B Cuda with the 273 you should be able to get to it fairly easy.

I have always put solid motor mounts on my Mopars so I wont have to worry about that happening.

I have heard about a quick fix tip about drilling a hole through the rubber mounts and then using some grade 8 bolts to make a
more secure mount...sounded like a great idea.

I knew what you were going to say before I even got 1/3 of the way through your post...yeah, I've had that  happen to me too. Scary I tell ya'. When mine snapped, my throttle linkage got stuck full open but, fortunately for me, my trans got thrown into neutral at the same time.

Would if I had the money.

I WAS supposed to go to a carshow Saturday.  Since they don't carry any replacement mounts in stock, I won't have one untill wednesday.  So I might be cutting it a little close there.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?
