Anyone own a Honda Accord? - need opinions.

Please don't respond with negitive comments that it is not an American car and so on... I am looking for a nice reliable safe car and so far it has been the most comfortable for my 6'4", 235lbs body - we test drove one and really liked it.

Honest opinions only please.

Thank you.

You can never go wrong with a Honda in my opinion, if you like it and it fits then buy it.  Toyota and Honda have superior reliability. I have a beater toyota tercel with well over 200k on it that i drive 150 miles a day and just about 2 weeks ago drove it on a 1400 mile trip without thinking twice.  i'd do the same with a honda!

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

I have a '93 Accord.  Zero problems.  It has been Car and Driver's #1 car for over 10 years?  or something like that? for very good reason.  Excellent cars.  You cannot go wrong with one.  Hard to improve upon it.  I can't say enough good things about ours, and we bought used.

Mike,

I have never heard a complaint about one and a person in my office has one with 200k + on it.  I would say good choice for everyday.

My son [who is 6 ft tall, 190lbs] loves his Accord. Safe, reliable, affordable, and cheap on the liquid gold. :yesnod:

The wife's daily driver is a 1991 Accord, 84,000 miles.  It's never needed anything other than routine maintenance.  I just keep the oil changed, put gas in it and go!

We had an '88 Accord that wasn't too bad. In light of their reputation I was a little suprised at the number of problems that I, and the previous owner, had with it. I needed a new carb almost right after we bought it and with the 134 vacuum lines coming in and out of it I didn't dare do it myself. I wished I had gotten the FI version. The A/C never worked for me or the previous owner despite several spendy attempts by the shop to repair it. The headlights would go out at random sometimes and IIRC the fuel pump went out on it. My wife's sister has a '94 or '95 Accord and over the past year or so she has been experiencing chronic transmission problems. The best thing about Accords IMO is how well their interiors hold up over time. They are pretty bulletproof.

I think I'd buy a Toyota before I'd buy a Honda.

i would look at a toyota also if i was going to buy an import,or i hate to say,a hyundai-the newer ones are pretty decent, and they can be bought pretty cheaply,i have an 05 that i took in on trade that ive been using as a shop loaner, and we all are amazed at what a decent little rice box it is!! pretty good testimony from a die hard bunch of mopar nuts if you ask me!

My father is 6'5 and drove one for years before buying his 4 runner because of that very reason. They had alot of head room. Personally I like the Camrys better myself.

Plumcrazy

Talked my Dad into buying a new 1999 Accord instead of a 1999 Stratus.
The Accord has been flawless.
The 1999 Stratus............  :rotz:

Speaking about reliability, Accord is among five cars at the top here in Europe, in front of some more expensive and famous producers.

My wife commuted in a Civic & we had 148,000 miles on it when we traded it for a larger vehicle. We bought it new in 1994 & had it about 6 years & she loved it. Never anything wrong with it other than replacing brakes, battery, tires & a tail pipe. There was plenty of leg room, even in the back seat. I'm 5'-10" tall, but love to stretch my legs out, & this car had more room than the Pathfinder we ended up with. We'd still have it if we didn't need a larger car after our daughter was born.

The Accord should be a nicer car than the Civic too.

The Accords are a nice car but they always feel like they are made for a 5'6" 140 person to me. The Camry seats are a better fit for me at 245 lbs.

Well since everybody here think Honda's are great, let me just say this, being that my family is very pro-union and since Honda is un-union I would never buy one. Maybe if the workers would join the UAW I would then think about it, but until then its Ford , GM and yes Mopar.  As long as I going to buy one I like to help out the union workers and don't care if it cost a little more.

::)   dont even get me started on what a disservice unions in the auto industry, or factorys in general have done to america. anyone who thinks that auto workers shuld be making $30 an hour to bolt on fenders deserves to be spending 40k on new cars. given any thought to why the big 3 are in so much trouble? something like 5k in bennys to retired auto workers per unit may have something to do with it. A lot of non skilled labor making as much as skilled craftsman is toug on an econmy...i will stop at that but could go on this rant for days!   :icon_smile_angry:

ooh and back on the honda subject, gerat cars , as are toyotas..as long as your not "ricein em"

another good thread about to take a turn for the worse

I've owned a '89 Civic that had over 318k when I got it, I put about 6,000 more on it doing my deliveries when I sold it.  The thing ran great until the thermostat went out in it, but once it was fixed it ran like a champ.  Poor thing died of rust (that's why it went to the junkyard)

my current driver is a '88 Toyota Pickup, great little truck.  If it ever dies I'm gonna get another! :yesnod:

Since I now work for Toyota I have to at least tell you to take a look at them. I have seen first hand how much effort goes into the quality. They are very well built cars. Plus they pay me every two weeks! :icon_smile_big:

chrisII

i have to agree that alot of the toyotas are more made in america than the big 3 are these days.  Ive had a few toyotas (old ones) they served me well for a while and were free..one of them somehow dumped out 4qts of oil in a matter of like a week, and i never noticed. I toped it off then a week later it blew up and was out of oil?? the other was just so rotten that i decided not to repair the brakes when they went out..brakes parts for toyotas are really cheap but it was cold out.   I traded the 2 of them for a 71 charger parts car     how can ya do better than that?
