Hey just wondering what everyone thought of the book Project charger. I have little knowledge but I am going to be restoring my 66 myself because 1 I want to learn how and 2 I am limited of budget (buing a house and getting married and all). I picked up the book thinking it would be a good tool. just curious of what everyone thougt.
p.s. I am still learning where the right sections are to post. hope I got it right. :icon_smile_question:

I'm almost done reading it. As soon as I finish, I'm gonna start over again.

Excellent book IMO. That book, and the people here have really helped the knowledge sink in. I'm gonna read it again to see how much better I understand some things the second time around.

I think the only bad part is the fact that it is printed by Bowtie Press. No knowledge of them but the name just doesn't seem right.

The book on the other hand is very good you just need to take your time and read carefully.

Have it, read it, like it. No idea how well the ideas and techniques applies to the real world, since I don't (yet) have a Charger. But it reads well and I would buy it again, even if I were restoring a different car.

My main complaint is that the author, like many others doing something like this, didn't spend 10 minutes with an experienced photographer before starting out. Many of the photos are blurry, colors are way off and the contrast is off more often than not. Remember there is a ban in effect on using on-camera flash for most purposes. :icon_smile_big:

Much could have been saved in post-processing before going to print, but wasn't. Strange, as the book came out in 2004, way after the digital darkroom went mainstream.

Also look into "How to rebuild Big-Block MOPAR engines" by Don Taylor. Dynamite text, similar issues with the photos (B&W). That book is 10 years older, so more excusable for a low budget book.

I have it and originally I would not have suggested it, but as time passes it has proved to be usefull. The body work stuff somewhat, but he mentions how to remove some items that I had no idea how to remove and for that alone it was handy. It is worth getting atleast as a suppliment to the service manual and the info you can gather here on the board.

Actually my body shop guy saw that I had it and asked if he could look at it :yesnod:

Excellent book, it can be applied to more vehicles than just a Charger, but it works perfectly form me since I'm currently restoring the exact same year. Mostly its a book of fundamentals with a few specific details about the 70 Charger. I love it. :yesnod:

It kind of applies in "general" to the second generation Charger's. It's an actual step by step restoration of a 1970 Charger by the author, but as mentioned above, the restoration principles can be applied to other vehicles and other Charger's - good book to have regardless at what stage or how in depth you are going to restore your Charger. Definetly a  :2thumbs:

It used to be advertised for sale in a banner at the top of that "other" Charger site that doesn't exist anymore.  I wonder if we should do the same?
