On a lighter note hopefully was reading about Ontario, Canada smoking ban thats a month old. The law says no one can smoke indoors in a public place, even bars. Said that business is way down at some places, and most are unhappy about it. I think its great, why should I have to smell that stuff? Second hand smoke kills people too so why should they be allowed to smoke indoors in public? Hope I will find more here that agrees with that.

It is already a law in many states here in the US. My state passed it a few years ago. I know Noew York has a similar law as does California. I am sure there are many other states with it as well.

I like to smoke when I drink and at first I didn't like not being able to smoke atleast in a designated area of a bar where kids and people with health issues should really be, but I don't mind it at all now. It has cut back my trips to bars 90%.

It has been out of restaurants around here for atleast 10 years and I prefer it. I can't fathom trying to eat a meal with someone smoking at the next table.

But is it everywhere bars too, even if its a private club. In Canada there is no loopholes , the bars can't even put a roof outside to help cover the smokers from the rain. If so, I hope Michigan does it too. Its smoking in every bar here, can't believe people can smoke that stuff. If it was weed well when I was young I did that but tobacco no way, it stinks.

Here in BC a business can allow smoking indoors but must have seperate areas, and some have to even have the smoking area inclosed in it's own seperate room altogether.

Everyone in ON is so f'in happy about the no smoking laws, they had a colourful parade on Sunday where 1M people showed up to celebrate the one month anniversary.   :D

I couldn't make it as I was working on my car.

Sweden has banned indoor smoking aswell in public spaces, you are not even allowed to smoke in Pubs or Bars anymore, they have to have a ventilated but sealed smokeing room, othervice you just have to go stand outside...

Eventhough I sometimes enjoy a smoke when I drink beer I definately think this ban of smoking inside is a good thing.. I wouldnt mind if smoking was made illegal al together... The tax money spent treating smokers could be used to other things....

It's freaking awesome!
I can go out for wings at our local bar and not smell like an ashtray when I leave!
They say that business is down, but I think it's only the media playing that up.  Where else would people go for beers or food???  It's not like only select places banned it.  Maybe in border towns where it's just a short drive to a more smoking friendly state/province... but people will still go to bars and clubs etc.

It's been Washington State Law for a little less than a year or so. You also cannot smoke within 30' of the entrance. I like it -  It makes it easier to get a good bar stool...

we've had that law here in Florida for a couple years now, it's really nice not having to worry about it in a restaurant now.

I dont smoke, never did. I love going to a bar now and not smelling that shit. The older I get the more I hate it

Ottawa, Ontario had it for a few years before the province adapted the law.  I think that helped them cover all the loopholes as the laws in Ottawa were amended a few times to cover those loopholes.
Quebec, Canada has also banned indoor smoking province wide.
No argument from me.  I always thought that having a 'no smoking' section in the restaurant was like having a no peeing section in the pool  ::)

I used to smoke.  Then I realized that maybe it's wasn't a good idea to put things in my mouth and SET THEM ON FIRE! :)

Oh, that and I got tired of killing myself and those I cared about.

Seriously, I read about people arguing that they should be free to smoke, and I'm all for that.  As long as they can contain their harmful vapors, i'm all about it.  Smoke everywhere you want, but it should DAMN sure be illegal for you to put smoke in the air I'm breathing.  Think of it this way, would it be legal for me to walk around with a syringe with a miniscule amount of lead (enough that long-term repeated exposure would kill someone, but no immediate harm would be done) injecting people at random?? HELL NO!  So, the same should apply to poisoning people with smoke.

Why the hell should we be unable to smoke if we want?  There is NO proof whatsoever that 2nd hand smoke kills.  None.

What's next, outlawing it in our own homes?  How about we outlaw alcohol while we are at it, too, since it can cause liver disease.  And, maybe we should ban high performance cars, since they are so dangerous on the roads!

Hell, I think New York is even debating a bill that would make it illegal to smoke OUTDOORS.  If not there, then where?

Seriously, kid, do you like stirring shit up?  Because, it's gotten really God damned old.

Contradiction much here?

Hell, I had my first taste of weed over the weekend (didn't do anything for me, surprisingly enough.  not gonna bother trying it again, but I digress).  That shit smelled worse than the cigar I was smoking.

There was an anti smoking "poster child" who died a few weeks ago here from lung cancer.  She was a waitress who worked in a smoke filled restaurant for 25 years.  She never smoked, her immediate family never smoked, but she got lung cancer from cigarette smoke...
There are plenty of cases of people who have never smoked, and then died of lung cancer.  I think that's proof.
I would have been like you ghost when I was 18, I smoked and was militant about being told I couldn't.
Quit, save your money and health...

You mean other than the surgeon generals report that came out yesterday?

Ghoul

Next thing you know they will be baning drinking alcohol in restaraunts & the bars will go out of business. Too many drunk drivers killing folks on the road & then what will it be next? It makes you wonder where this will all end. All fast food places are killing people too by putting too much crap in their food. Maybe they will be next. Or maybe old cars that put out too much poison from their exhaust? All of us better hope not! They are always banning something. How much do things like this really help? With the amount of toxins being put into the atmosphere from the large companies do we really know (even the so called experts) what is caused by which toxic substance in the air, water, etc? Take your pick :icon_smile_dead:

dodge freak

True the water is dirty and the air is fill with chemicals even the clothes we have on has chemicals that get in our body's but tobacco smoke does cause cancer and the surgeon general agrees that second hand smoke even for just a few mins. is harmfull  to people, after doctors been saying that for years now.

As for the rest of the items-alcohol , fast food , old cars you are right, one day somebody will go after them. When ever something happens people over do it. We have a right to bear arms-so now we have AK-47 being sold, somebody wants a fast car, so you can buy a brand new engine for $15,000  or a sports car for $300,000 etc.

Still think it be nice not to ever smell tobacco smoke if I don't want to, might even let me live a little longer-if all the other toxic stuff don't kill me first.

Agreed - and I should be able to inject people with trace amounts of lead whenever I want, too!  :icon_smile_big:
