tinted glass on 2nd gen - various shades or all "green"...

Saw a post further down on black car with greet tint.

That is just what I like and have - and I asked Q some time ago about tint since my cars original glass has very dark/visible tint - green.  Pictures on AC cars (that can be assumed to have tinted glass I have been told since standard) do not often come out showing the tinted "shade" very clearly - whereas on my car it is clearly green shaded...

Q - were there different tints available? Doesn´t sound likely but still - tint show up so differently on pictures (yes cameras/lighting etc + interior make a difference but still...) that I began to wonder....

And the comment on "green" shade vs other (grey?) shades....

Got me wondering!

I had some tinted rear quarter glass hanging around that was lighter than usual. But You could see the area that sat non-exposed inside the car was darker, like the tint faded. Maybe many faded to different degrees?

Look for the tint codes on the bottom of the glass.

They always start with the letter M. eg: M87 or M225 or M176 or M.....

If you ever have to purchase a replacement piece of glass for any of your cars, make sure you get the tint code off of the opposite side you are replacing to ensure you get the right one.

So tint-codes mean there are different "tints-shades" - or why the codes? Not to identify which glass surely...

Shakey - you have a clue?

Honestly, I don't know what was avaialble way back when.

What I do know, is that I have two quarter glasses for my '69 that have different tint codes, even though the glass is clear.  Sometimes the tint on tinted glass is just slightly different that you can't tell by looking at it.  That is why, to be on the safe side, I will search for matching glass for when the car is complete.  In the sun, it might show up.  Again, my glass is clear, but it still has M?? codes on them.   :shruggy:

With newer cars it is more prevelant as some vehicles, let's use a mini-van for example, will have different shades from one model to another.  Like a Montana SE might have a bronze tint to the glass (eg: M279) and a Montana LE might have a blue tint on the glass (eg: M288).
