Saturday Night at the Drag Strip

There is a drag strip about 10km away from the family farm.  Originally, I had planned on going and taking my 2 YO Daughter but found out that the main feature wasn't going to start until after 7:00 PM so I ruled out taking her with me.  Another reason for going was the fact that the fella that built the 440 that is in my Charger races a car, an orange '63 Belvedere Max Wedge, and I wanted to meet him.

I was working on my car all day in the shop and could hear the sounds of the drag races off in the distance so needless to say, I was excited about checking out some racing action that night.  No one else wanted to go and that was fine with me as I always find that it is easier to move about during the evening, not having to ask or worry about what someone else might want or not want to do.  My Wife offered to go to keep me company but I told her that I would be just fine!   :D

I slipped into the VIP area looking for the best vantage point and scored a couple of free beers in the process     .  I also made my way into the pit area to get up close to some of the race cars.  These types of maneuvers are easy to pull off if you are flying solo.   :yesnod:

Had an awesome time, some great racing action and some pretty neat cars.

They had the Cool Bus - a wheel standing school bus, a couple of rocket cars, a jet ambulance and some funny cars.

For the final run of the jet dragsters I was right beside the track.  These cars go from 0 - 100 mph in 1 second.  The noise and the rush of heat and the force of them going by is just incredible.  I was litterally knocked off balance and that had nothing to do with the beer!  I was blown away.  AWESOME!  I have short videos that turned out pretty good.

Enjoy the pics!

I won't be wronged, I wont be Insulted and I wont be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to others, and I require the same from them.

Killer pics Mike ! Is that Cayuga ? I've never been to that track but it looks nice from the pics  :yesnod:

Be careful....before long you'll be blasting the 69 r/t down the 1320. Once you make one pass....you're hooked like a heroin addict !  :icon_smile_big:

The sonic blast from those jet cars is wild....we had them here last year. The blue flame looks killer in the pitch black of the night. I bet you told the wife you had a horrible time  :D

Cool dude, we have a race legal drag strip at our Stadium, we go for the 1/8 action. You can race your wifes mini-van as long as you have a helmet.

BTW, at our Fri. night drags, there was a mean green '68 Charger that just SMOKED an '06 Creeder turd mobile. It was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. :'( :icon_smile_big:
"Let me explain something to you, um i am not Mr. Lebowski, you're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the dude, so that's what you call me. That or his dudeness, or duder, or you know, el duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing."

I felt the rush go right through my whole body when the two jet cars went by.  I have a video that has garnered a few laughs.  Watching them warm up, then take off and go by me at about 100+ mph then off into the distance.  The camera shakes as I loose my balance and all that could be heard is me saying "holy F**K", from the bottom of my heart.

Ya Ron, that is Cayuga.  Now named Toronto Motorsports Park.

That was only my second time there.  The first time was about 10 years ago and all I saw was guys racing their Sables & Cavalier's down the track.  Not too exciting.

If you ever plan on making the trip to check out some racing, let me know as I mentioned, the farm is just down the road and around the bend!  Ya know we'd feed and water you if you were coming.  Hell, I'd even supply the brews!  The Top Fuel cars will be around on July 21 until the 23rd.  C'mon down as we are having an annual fish fry & corn roast on Saturday the 22nd!

As far as me racing my car at the track - huh, I'd be pleased if I could take it off the jack stands sometime in the next few weeks!   ::)

My Wife knows me far too well for me to even attempt lying.  Her Mother was laughing as I was telling Lori that I will be just fine on my own and the drag strip is no place for a pregnant Woman!   :D

You don't get out much do you Dude?   :pity:

I've seen the mini van races also.  Not too thrilling.

What about you - ever race your '70 at the drags?
