When I was a teenager there was no AIDS out there, I never got sick and it was great. Now thanks to all these guys who sleep with anybody and everybody there is AIDS and maybe even other new stuff to worry about. Now you see why I don't like them ? I rather be more like 13 years old than 50 years old anyways so what ?

I think AIDS is essentially a separate issue from homosexuality.  Just look at sub-Saharan Africa, or the I.V. drug using community.

The disease would still have spread through the straight community alone.  The heavily-promiscuous gay communities where it first spread might have spread it a little faster than the straight communities of the time, but that difference is probably cancelled out by the fact that those urban gay communities were a whole lot smaller & more geographically concentrated than the straight community overall.

And if it had been mainly in the straight community, Reagan & the rest of the gov't & health community might have done something about it years earlier.  I think the disease/virus was being identifed in about 1981 or so, and yet the gov't did nothing for several more years.  (It was like 1985 before blood transfusions were even screened!  WTF!?!  We're talking about a new disease that was 100% fatal!)

Ah, somehow I knew Reagan would get blamed for something in this thread. How trite.
