Is the new Chally going to be a low volume niche car?

I just opened up the September issue of Corvette Magazine. On page six there is a half page size pic of the new Camaro concept. The article reads that GM exec Bob Lutz said for the new Camaro to be viable they have to sell at least 100,000 units. They are concerned that there aren't that many new slots to be filled since the Mustang only sold 160,000 units in 05.

There is a small pic of the new Chally on the page and the article continues on about it.

"Meanwhile, facing the same general market question with it's Dodge Challenger retro/Xerox thing, DaimlerChrysler has declared that the 6.1 liter showcar will only move in to production if it can be  priced well above the Mustang and be sold as a strictly niche model in low-volume, high-output V8 form. (Mustangs and, traditionally, Camaros rely on low priced V6 models for the bulk of there volume.) A final decision on Challenger could also come during the summer."

What is DCX thinking now? Are they trying to make Challenger into another Prowler? It sounds like they are going the exact opposite way of what real people (like us) are wanting them to do.
1972 Charger Topper Special, 360ci, 46RH OD trans, 8 3/4 sure grip with 3.91 gear, 14.93@92 mph.
1973 Charger Rallye, 4 speed, muscle rat. Whatever engine right now?

And your taking that from a Corvett mag?  Thats like getting your political news from the New York Times.  You might say its a little slanted.

But your right, it wouldn't suprise me at all to see them do that.  Their excuse?  "Well, we made the Charger available in a V6 and that isn't outselling the Mustang either."

How much was the Prowler anyway?  I'm thinking if that new Chally is under 50K, I'm still going to get me one!    :icon_smile_approve:

Due to the high cost of building it, the high price of fuel, the economy tanking, and the limited amount of buyers, Chrysler is not going to build the "new Challenger". Right car, wrong timing.  Sorry guys.
