my oil preasure starts at 26psi when I start it, and drops as it gets warm. I just fired it up after rebuilding it. it's my first rebuild. I thought i had screwed up the oil pump, so i bought a high preasure one, checked to make sure the screen was not clogged, made sure the screen was in the pan correctly. I only changed gaskets and bearings when I rebuilt it. and the carb, but that has nothing to do with it, can any of you give me an idea as to what I did? what should my next step be?

What oil are you using
do you know what the bearing clearances were machined too , if the clearances are too large it will have low pressure

the engine guys that I have asked around here say that my crank has been worked. I didn't realize that and bought standard bearings for it. so I'm going to trade my 340 for my dad's 360 he built that has been sitting in his truck for 10 yrs. he said he doesn't mind having an engine that needs work, he wont touch it for another 10 yrs. I'll probably end up doing the work the right way b/c I'm slowly learning. I used napa 10w30 oil

If the crank has been turned and you're using std. bearings then the excessive clearance in the bottom end is the issue.  ;)
