OK, I thought I new this one, at least what I have been told. I have never had 6pk rods, and the 440
I bought just over a month ago 'he said' had 6pk rods. Well as the story goes it turned out to be a
74 truck block.

My question is, do all 71 and up 440 engine's have the heavy real deal 6pk rods?

This 74 440 truck engine supposedly has the 6pk rods, but I have also been told that
the truck rods and later model 440's had a heavier rod, but the 6pk rod is actually
a bigger rod than the say 74 truck block rods, is this true? are the true 6pk rods
larger than the rods in a 74 truck block?

This engine is most likely going into litigation now, so I need to make absolutely sure
I have my facts strait.

Thanks Dan

After the last of the six pack motors went out of production Chrysler had a bunch of the six pack ( 908 ) rods left over so they wound up in a lot of later 440's, trucks included. It was just to expensive for Mopar to throw them out.

Sorry to har that Dan.....guess this guy isn't the friend you thought he was !

As far as i know, there are only two RB rod castings....the #535 ly's and the heavier 6 pack rods that were often used in trucks. The beams on the 6pk rods are noticably wider when placed next to an LY. It's pretty obvious when they're next to each other.

I hope it works out and you get your money back. It's a shame when stuff like this happens  :icon_smile_dissapprove:

There are other earlier RB rod forgings such as the Max Wedge ones but basically what you're saying is correct.  There is the LY rod and the HP or Sixpack rod.  The "sixpack" rod showed up in a lot of engines after the early 70's including HP motors and truck/motorhome stuff.

OK, This is what I thought. I had a guy tell me last week that the 6pk rods were bigger than the
rods that were put in truck engines, and most all non HP cars after 71.

I have seen the 6pk and LY rods side by side in the past, and there is a huge difference. But after being
told there was another rod size I went 'really' never heard that before.

Yep, this guy is now saying that ' I ' broke the block  :rotz: :rotz: and no way did it happen before I got
it from him. The stupid part is he dropped it off here, at my house and set it down on my dolly. I lifted
the engine up 1ft and took the thick bags off and found all of these problems, then set it right back down
on the plastic dolly, and he still will not evan come over and see what I am talking about, so how can he
Deny everything, when he never took the plastic cover off it after he got it back from the shop, so he
still has no clue how it is actually busted or the other problems   :rotz: :rotz: :flame: :flame:
