What is the correct oil filter number or size?

If I go to Pep Boys or Autozone

What filter should I get for a 440?

What about the PVC Valve?

Thanks in advance.  Robert

I don't spend a real lot of cash on oil filters because I change the oil every 2000 miles anyway, and I run a dual filter set up.   I just use those cheap  Fram PH8A.  But if you want to use a more expensive filter, you can cross-reference this number to the brand of your choice.   For the record....I use Castrol GTX 10w40......if it matters...lol

Chryco Psycho

use a decent filter , the Fram is not a decent filter BTW

TylerCharger69

I know....I think I mentioned that they were "cheap"  but like I said....I change oil every 1500  to 2000 miles,  and those filters have really never given me any troubles.   I posted that number just to have something to cross-reference from.

Chryco Psycho

yeah well a friend used one & it wouldn`t flow oil properly , it totalled his engine in 200 miles

Its K & N for me, not sure if its worth 10 bucks but I have hear bad stuff about fram. And I don't trust Mopar, so its K & N.

TylerCharger69

I dunno...but 200 miles?...I think there may have been other issues than a bunk oil filter.  I've been using them on this Charger for 10 years and no troubles yet!!   I just don't feel the need to pay for an elaborate filter when it'll only be there for 1500  to 2000 miles.   But  then again...I don't let my oil get that dark anyway.   K&N  are excellent filters!!!   But at 10 to 15 bucks a piece.......Well...I'm not a rich man...lol

I use Wix filters.....part # 51515

PCV I would get the "correct" repro one if it were me........you all know how I am....I went as far as to paint my WIX filter red white & blue to match a repro Mopar filter :rotz:

If Chryco says don't use a Fram that's all I need.  Any specific preference, Neil?

Bummer. I'm curious how the engine failure was pinned to the oil filter and what the actual problem with the filter was.

From what I remember about test results in the past, Fram always came up near the top on oil filters, although the results I recall were quite awhile ago. Fram and Fleetgaurd is nearly all I have ever used and that is because of published test results.

Bad thing to rely on 20 year old information.....

This study states that Fram used to be top rated, now suck - at least in terms of their construction. One of the Mopar filters also received a very bad review.

I am definitely going to to some new research. Glad I read this thread.

Just clean your old PCV out with some carb cleaner. Chances are easily 99% that it will be good as new. If you don't have any carb cleaner handy, WD40 would probably do just as well.
