Now that I finally got my temps and I can finally buy a car I can't find anything. Back when I wasn't Officially allowed I could find every car I wanted at the time. I don't want to jump on the first deal i find. I almost did that and would have lost a lot of money to. What do you guys suggest?

Hey how old are you? Just wondering, oh stay away from those turbos, its all worn out by now and cost too much to get it to run good again, if it ever ran good to start.

mustanghater

I'm 16. I got up to 4k to spend on a good car.

Sorry I thought you were 15, inside joke, ha ha. Well $4000 is not much but you can get a good car with that just not a fast one, at least not anymore. When I was 16 there was 1970 cars everywhere cheap too, but back to today. Have you thought about a GM or others or are you sure its a Mopar you want. $4000 well stay away from the dealers get one from a private owner, not one that sell cars everyday thats to start. GM 3.8 motors were ok when new, I had a 1988 olds 88 and it had a some power and we got 295,000 miles on it and was still running when we got sick of it leaking oil. 1992 air bags came in and power went down a bit. Olds even made a 2 door 88 but those a rare. Mopars were not so great, oh the turbos were ok but again those are worn out by now. These guys might not like this but if I was you and know not to much on cars and had $4000 to work with, I look at the GM cars before 1994 for the mid size and 1992 for the full size. 1990 was a good year for a lot of GM cars get a v 6 not the 4 bangers no matter how good it looks. 3.3 was a ok motor too.  If you get a mid 90's it have anti-lock brakes, air bags and other stuff that cost you so much when it breaks, so the 80's very early 90's is what I look for.Not sure where you live but 5 years ago or so the rear wheel drive Cutlass and other GM cars guys were dropping v 8 's in them and some ran good, but they are all rusted up now, I live in Michigan. No smog checks but rust everywhere even my 2000 has some rust now. If you can find one that has a 350 in it and don't have smog checks that be ok to have. I though GM steering stinks and those v6  GM put in did too, but some put in 350's form the 70's with a 3 speed trans . I would not buy one but if I was 16 I might.

Mustanghater, I personally know of 3 local Mopars I can get for 4k or less.  Locally.

If you want a Mopar bad enough, then stop being picky.  My first Mopar was a 68 Dart 4 door, that I payed 600 dollars for, running and driving.  4k is PLENTY.  4k should get you a decent shaped 318 powered 3rd gen.  It's certainly more than enough for a 318 powered A body.

Stop freaking bitching, get off your God damned ass, and actually put some effort into your search, for the love of all things holy!

Hater:

If I guess correctly, 2 grand of your 4 grand will likely go to insurance.   Hahahah, glad I'm no longer under 25.

Keep dreaming & good luck with that Mazda sedan or hatchback you'll ultimately buy.

In the meanwhile, stop yer whining.

Peace,

Neal

I agree with dodge freak. If you want to find something with some balls that you can take to the strip and not get laughed at and still have a dependable driver that your not working on every other day than i would look towards a grand prix gtp. The 3800s are good running reliable engines and you can buy a mid 90s model for the amount you have. For me I would rather have something with abs and airbags if im going to be driving it everyday. Heres a link to one on ebay right now that could probably be bought for $4k if you waved it in his face.

dodge freak

Well thats a nice car IF he could get it for $4000, his revs. is up there I bet more like $7000. You now what -those cars are getting cheaper every month so if he can wait and keep his eyes open he find something. Sure ABS is nice when it works but when it breaks its $500 just for the master cyc. Maybe parts will get cheaper as the cars get older. Sometimes I forget its 2006 now, I was thinking of something that was 10 years older. 5 years from now there be all types of good cars for you, but yeah we know you are not going to wait that long.

73dodge

Dude

You have been posting for a year and a half about looking for a car. My advice to you is

1. Stop talking and start seriously LOOKING.

I realize being 16 you don't have a lot of options to go roaming the country side but I was looking through the Plain Dealer newspaper a few months ago and saw two not one but TWO 73 chargers for sale at 2 different times. One was going for 12,500 triple black and the other was going to 3000.00 as it needed work. Get a Tradin Times and look through that I bet you find three decent MOPARS in there for 4K or less.

Get some of your buddies together someone who has a car preferably pay for his gas and drive around eastern ohio and western PA on the back roads I bet you find an car dealer ship that has something old in it for sale. I travel alot I saw a 71Scamp sitting in a lot in Danville PA just last week It's about 4 hours from you.. Last year I saw a 74 Duster stiing for sale in some farmers front yard near PYMATUNING Lake I KNOW you know where that is, don't ask me where it was because I don't remember and I was driving and I did not stop.  I run across at least one old MOPAR a month that's for sale when I travel for work, it's usually sitting in a old used car lot in the back because no one wants to buy it because no one wants a 35 year old car.

So stop YAPPING and WHINING about there being no cars available and start looking. Geez man I think the way you talk on this site and on MOPARTS you sound like you just want someone to just drop a fully restored car in your lap that runs 12seconds and does not need any work other than installing neon and stickers.

Next time I have to go someplace for work I am going to take pictures of old MOPARS I see that are for sale and post the pictures in this thread just to show you what is out there if you would just get off yer butt and start looking around.......

Grow up!

Jesus man!  You had half of Moparts practically THROWING cars at you, now that they're sick of you, you're coming back here.  Either shit or get off the pot.

Okay?

Last time I checked, I couldn't give a flying rats ass if I offend someone, or hurt their feelings.  On the same note, you have to REALLY mess with me to hurt my feelings, since I'm a hard, cold son of a bitch.

In fact, I just posted over on Moparts yesterday with a question about my car.

And aren't you the one who bitched about Moparts on 3 other forums?  Pot kettle black there, kid.

Grow the hell up.  We are ALL getting sick of you.

Yup...like I said...people on Moparts have all but gone to his house, picked him up, brought him to where the cars were, and facilitated the transfer of title.

Believe me...its been done

Being 16 is really not much of an excuse for not being able to find a car.  When I was 15 I started looking for a charger.  I wanted to build a General Lee clone at the time (I have since changed my mind) so I started looking for a 69 charger and I probably wasn't gonna settle for anything less.  The car I was driving daily had a 389 in it with good power so I wasn't going to settle for anything less than the 383 in a charger.  And since my daily driver didn't have AC I figured that I would try to find a charger with AC.  Oh did I mention I wanted to be able to drive it without a total rebuild?  Anyway after about 4 months of good hard searching, something you're not doing, I found just exactly the charger I described not 10 miles from my house.  It happened to be at an estate auction.  As everyone knows auctions are not the place to find steals on cars.  I went to the auction with a budget of $5K.  I bought the car for $4500 and drove it home.  When it was all said and done I had my 69 Charger at 16 for $4500.

When I was 17 I bought a 71 charger from a friend's dad.  This car had a 318 in it.  The car was a bit rusty but I paid $400 for this car and again I drove it home.  6 months after that I bought another 71 charger to start the resto process.  I got this car out of the junkyard for $318.  One year ago I was out of town when my dad saw a 73 charger for sale locally.  The guy's price was $300.  My dad bought it for me and I paid him when I got home.  This charger had a 318 with a 3spd manual on the column, very rare although not particularly desirable.  This car also runs and drives although it does need it's clutch replaced.

I am now 20.  I have 3 running and driving chargers plus one parts charger.  Between all 4 chargers, including purchase prices and all parts that I have bought for them, I don't have a dime over $7K in them COMBINED.

So quit feeling sorry for yourself and go buy a car.  You can get big block 1st and 3rd gen. Chargers anywhere for 4K and drive them home.  I have a hard time feeling sorry for someone when he says he's only 16 and just can't find a Charger.  I've been through it and I know what it takes to find one.  I bought 3 Chargers before I was old enough to buy a pack of cigarrettes legally.
When I was just a very young lad I looked up and told my dad, a bareback rider's what I wanna be.  I want the whole world to know about me.  In the rodeo arena I'll make my stand.  I wanna be a rodeo man.  I'll come flyin' from the chute with my spurs up high, chaps and boots reachin' for the sky.  Spurin' wild with my head throwed back, you'll ask 'Who's that,' well that's Bareback Jack.  You'll ask 'Who's that,' well that's Bareback Jack.

TheGhost

I'll buy that 73 for $500.  That's a 67% profit. ;D ;D

Seriously though, he's right.  What you want is to have a car worth 15-20 just handed over to you for 4k, and that's never going to happen.  You need to realize that.

I did, even though I didn't end up with a Charger like I wanted, I took the best thing I could get my hands on.  At least everything pretty much bolts on mechanical wise, it's Cheaper too.  Remember, any classic mopar is better than no classic mopar at all.
when racing deals fall apart.....you go home, like me.
