The price of rare mopars seems to be self regulatiing. If the price dips a little, then the owners won't sell and if the owners won't sell, it makes the prices go back up. Don't expect much of a price drop unless there's a recession. Of course if there's a recession, we won't be able to afford them even then. When the superbirds were 30k, I couldn't afford one. I could afford to pay 30k now, but of course now they're 75k or more. Life is like that.

Very true.  When I bought mine in 2000, it was s@@@ or get off the pot time.  I was at a point I could take the plung that I should have done years ago.  I knew I was going to have to get one then or never because of prices.   I couldn't afford one now.

Ghoste

Had a similar discussion with a guy at work yesterday.  He was yipping about how he should have bought a new Vette back in 1970 because they were so affordable then.  I pointed out that he was likely only making 2 bucks an hour in 70 and it was no more affordable to him then.  The memory light bulb came on after that.

I think the answer is simple as to why the prices are down.  First and foremost it does not have a Hemi.  So much emphasis has been placed on the Hemi cars that a non-Hemi car cannot generate the interest a Hemi does.  Pick up any muscle car magazine these days and you will mostly read about how the Mopars are in such demand and especially the Hemi cars.  Hemmings Muscle Cars did a mopar price guide and staye daway from most of the Hemi cars because they had no idea what they are worth or selling for.  It truly is amazing that the bottom of the line 68 Roadrunners are bringing $40,000 with a 383 in them.  Nice rubber floors you got there for $40K.

In my opinion the love affair is slowly coming to an end and you can see it in the quantity and non-sale of wing cars on E-Bay.  Also notice the quantity of wing cars on E-Bay recently.  A month or two ago, you would be lucky to find a Daytona and more than 1 Superbird for sale.  Now it seems those quanitites have multiplied a lot.

I make no pretenses.  Unless I hit the lottery or something, there is little chance I will ever be able to replace my 68 Charger and it was a non-descript 383 Magnum car.

69_500

The price on that car seems fair to me, well sort of high still honestly. Its a 440 4 bbl car from the factory. Very common Superbird. Don't get me wrong its still a wing car and I'd take it, just not as fast as I'd go after a 440 Daytona in the same condition. But personally I prefer the Daytona to the Bird.

Then again Rene its your color and its a Superbird, so are you going to bid on it?

BigBlockSam

no, my bird is looking far away, the housing market was waiting for me to put a house for sale  for it to crash. it looks like i will be taking the house off the market. so there is no cash for a real bird right now.   >:(
i will concentrate on the projects i have going now but you never know what the future will bring. Rene

Thats gotta be rough. I thought you were really close to being able to actually bid on an Alpine White Superbird to call your own.

BigBlockSam

it would take every dollor i have to but that car and i'm not willing to do that. Rene

Its weird, some prices seem to be going down while others are still sky rocketing. doesn't make much sense to me.

Ghoste

It doesn't make sense and that is what is so frustrating about it.  I think the long time collectors are especially bugged by it.

69_500

I think the long time collectors are smiling. Because they don't care if the market goes up or down, they have had the cars for 20+ years and won't sell at any price.

Ghoste

But they still sometimes feel the urge to buy. ;)

69_500

Don't we all? Only difference is that the long time collectors tend to be the middle class guys who have cars, but not any more money to pick up more.
