I think T Bell is merely cashing in on his dukes knowledge/know how and making money off the Duke lamers out there. Look at all the people flock to the dukefests. Its simply business for him.

Travis has had absolutely nothing to do with Dukesfest for quite a few years. Ben Jones and now CMT is the Dukesfest guys. And the car belongs to someone else. They put Travis in charge of the restoration to make sure the car ended up looking like it did originally.

I normally agree with you Brian, but I am 100% opposite of you on this one. The only General Lee I think I ever spent more that 2 minutes around was that so called "embarrassing" car you mention. It was mobbed the entire weekend in the previous shape it was in. Now he could park next to to you at some show, and you would have no idea what it was or why anyone should care.

The only reason this car will even be noticed outside of a Duke event, is because they will load it up with gobs of so called "original documentation" and hype. To most it's just yet another orange 01 car.

If I saw an article saying the original Lee was found, I would rather see it in it's previous state, rather than to hear it was restored. Either way it doesn't matter much to me because to this day I can't watch an entire episode of that show. The Dukes and Mopars have no real relation. The Duke boys in Carlisle remind me of the PT Cruiser guys. Most only care about that one car and not the show. That doesn't mean every owner, but the numbers are high.

well i grew up on the dukes and i really believe thats why i own a 69 today, the show was cool i still watch it now and again. my car isnt a general lee replica or anything like that. if i ever got a junker to restore, who knows maybe id do a clone just for the hell of it. you never know itd probly be fun to bang around in it now and then lol, jump the occasional water tower to get out of a speeding ticket. but it he wants to fix it power to him another one saved.

           i still believe that the show actually caused more cars to be saved than they destroyed, if the show killed 400 cars (not sure the actual # and wanna be jumps over the years at dukes fest and such) its no big deal in the big picture to me cuse people who dont even know mopar know what the general lee looks like. ive seen some pretty sad chargers that probly wernt worth the effort but they were restored cuse people wanted a general lee.

   I still see it my way... and your way is fine too.   I don't pretend to want to have a GL clone but I understand there's people that do.    Like I said,  I don't hate the show...  I kinda like it.   I do believe it's helped save lots of Chargers... even some of them incorrect years like '68 or '70 

    But here's what I see happening...    T. Bell took the car around to a bunch of shows and got appearance fees to show up with a heap on a open trailer... people like me looked at it for 2 minutes... some looked at it longer.  Whatever.    Now the appearance fee $ is dried up.

    Come November,  he has a freshley restored documented LEE1 to show off.     Now watch this puppy get dragged over the country in a enclosed trailer behind a motor home with a T shirt stand...  with some sponsor logos on it too.    You'll probably have to  pay to have your picture taken with it too.   

    I can't explain the whole Duke thing...   it is what it is.    It's not hurting anybody that I know of 
I know there's a whole lot of less deserving cars that get restored for no other reason that they used to be owned by some celebrity or whatnot.    I would hope LEE1 would end up at the Smithsonian later on.

as a dukes fan i think it would be kinda neat to see the car jumped back at oxford college, in the same spot as the original jump was....if they could get it to land like it did then, and fly for about the same distance, the car wasn't that bad off...(not saying that everyone needs to go jump there chargers, but i just think it would be kinda neat)

So... some people take issue with someone making money with thier car (or someone elses) ? I say if you can do something that you love and put your heart and soul into, and make others happy or turn a tidy profit, more power to you. I built my GL clone for my own enjoyment, and the fact that it brings happiness to so many others, especially the kids, is icing on the cake. I can't get a mile from my house without a thumbs up, horn beep, wave etc. People stop in traffic to take pictures, not to mention the General Lee Poparatsi that plagues me on the highway. It's all good. It's only within the Mopar camp that GL clones get bashed. Out in the real world, we're treated like some kind of celebrity. And btw, no two GL clones are exactly the same. I've purposely deviated from the "standard" to suit my own tastes. Anyway, hope this fuels the flames and stirs some s**t as things have been kinda dull since the rest of the Dayclona gang has been banned.

I dont have any problem with the DOH/GL cloners out there. Not my thing, & I wouldnt do it to an old charger, but live and let live I guess, I used to watch it when it was first on, I liked it for what it was (just goofy redneck American fun)  I might entertain the idea of cloning a DMCL 69 with slot mags and all. I do think the Dukes did save far more Chargers than it destroyed though....

As a matter of fact, I rarely and I mean rarely run into a 2nd gen owner who was inspired by the Dukes. It's the car man...don't give the Duke boys credit for something Chrysler designed.

Okay, it's hard to gauge how much influence a TV show (or movie) has on the value of a car unless we open a portal to an alternate dimension in which that show never existed.  But most of the General Lee clones are non-R/T, non-Daytona, non-500 cars.  In fact, outside of Photoshop, I've never seen a Daytona or 500 turned into a General Lee.  I would be inclined to believe that the Dukes of Hazzard has influenced the price of base model 2nd generation Chargers.  Especially when a cataclysmic event, such as the 2005 movie, occurs.  Had the movie been done well, the effects would have been multiplied.

Both had nothing to do with the price boom. It's a desireable body style just as the Charger is. It was only inevitable that both cars would become huge collector cars down the road much like GM and Ford have their desireable models. Again, the Dukes had nothing to do with it.
