Just goes to show some people have too much money. I am all for socialism, if they can throw that much cash away on a car then they can also give a few million to the poor people.

How do you know that he or others haven't or don't?

I know bill pretty well as a friend and really bashing him for buying the cars? I don,t understand i can tell you he has not always had big money and isn,t a silver spoon guy he is very down to earth as he was probably in the same boat many of us are in just a few years ago. Just found the key to making some serious coin. I have driven the white vert pictured as well as some of his other cars, He threw me and another buddy the keys( now if you owned that caliber of car would you let friends test drive it?) Really there are many guys just turning the cars but he is enjoying them and sometimes selling them but who in this hobby doesn,t sell to fund another acusiton. Just my .02   Jerry

I am curious, as always when it comes to the extremely wealthy, as to how they made their millions!  Not for bashing purposes, more like ideas on how I can make millions.   :yesnod:

So, since you know Bill pretty well as a friend, and I am not being facetious here, how did Bill make his millions?  Stock market, real estate, a chain of dry cleaners....

There is a house for sale in the town I live in for $45,000,000.00 CDN - the owner runs a landscaping company!  Who would have ever thought that landscaping could generate that much deniro.   :shruggy:

In all fairness though, if it's only something you heard, doesn't he deserve to have his side of the story heard prior to judging?
Not very good advice coming from me but that's beside the point.

Anybody who pays 5 million for a old car like that one has to pay in cash, no bank would give a loan out for 5 million for that car. These CEO's who make 50-200 million a year are making to much money, I don't care how "hard" they work nobody should be able to make that much money. If there were no staving people and such maybe I would feel different. What about the Enron guys , they made their billions by stealing form the stock holders, they are the ones who would pay that much for a old car. Anybody who would "work" for their money would never throw it away like that. Think Bill Gates deserves to have 50 billion, if you do , god help you.

A family friend, my dad's roommate in college is in the Millionaire position. He is also a Mopar guy. He is a really nice guy. He made his millions by being good at what he did, and knowing how to buy and sell.
His family owned a saw maintenance shop in the Redwoods of California... you know servicing saws of the lumber mills. He went to school with my dad and they both got their masters degree in Mechanical engineering. My dad went to work for a Nuclear power plant... and his roommate went to work for his dad at the saw shop. After working there, and with his education he started building his own saws, then started cutting his own lumber. Then he built one of the first computer controlled saws. Then sold the family business for several million, and opened another saw shop. Then he stared making new saws again. Last I heard he sold the new business for even more money. Mean while Sacramento closed Rancho Saco, my dad moved to geothermal power plans, and now he works for Calpine... If you live in California, you might have heard, Calpine just went Bankrupt... It doesn't effect my dad to much... they have to keep the plants online and he's high enough to miss any layoffs... but sucks for me who invested his college fund in Calpine stock about 4 years ago!

As far as the guy with the Cuda goes, he sounds like my dads friend... letting people drive his car and all. (Drove a museum quality Model A Sedan to prom... thanks to my family friend) Sounds like a nice guy, more power to him... maybe some day he'll give me a few thousand for a car I build...

Those guys I have no problem with, thats how it should happen. Not these CFO-CEO's who go in 9-5 , 5 days a week in their air condition office , take a month vacation every year and make 200 million or more every year. Something is wrong with that. The people who keep the company running make 20,000-100,000 a year and work much harder. If you are Elvis or somebody like that  thats one thing but these guys like Bill Ford who's great grand dad started the company and now he gets to sit back and make a ton of money well the people who work in the factory are losing their jobs or taking pay cuts , no way, that troubles me.

What you don't understand??  Bill Ford has been running Ford  motor in to the ground, just cause his great grand dad started the company doe's not mean he should be running it now. If he wants to hang on to the stock fine but find somebody that can run Ford like his G. G dad did, won't surprise me if Ford goes bankrupted in a few years--Stock has went from $50 down to under $7 , his forefathers would not believe whats happening. Maybe a seat on the board but not CEO , besides hes only what 49 years old , and started the job when he was just 44 years old, most CEO's are in their late 50's or 60's and have a track record of good performance, not just a hugh chunk of stock. Where the heck would he be if its wasn't for that? Surely not CEO of anything let alone a company like Ford motor, what was a great big company and now is fighting just to stay alive. All he did was to copy what GM was doing and that was a big mistake cause GM was not doing the right things, look at Chrysler, its in the same business and is doing great. Maybe he could have sold Ford motor to BMW or some other company 5-7 years ago, but no he wanted to run it cause his forefathers did, Not one of Fords better ideas.

I was referring to this part of your post:

How can you be put off by someone who had made a decision early in life to get an education, focus on their career and make a comfortable life for them and their family?

dodge freak

Its the 200 million a year paycheck, you need to do more than go to school and work hard , its who you know. Most people who go to school and become a doctor or such make around 200,000 a year not $200 million, come on, why are they worth that much? All those people that make 100's of millions every year their fathers also did, thats unfair. There is very smart well school folks making $50,000 a year and could do as good of a job as the ones making hundreds of millions. Then they throw $5 million for a Cuda and price all of us out of it, all they do is make life harder for us, they are doing the world no good by spending that much for that car. Why don't they use that money so other kids can go to school and help their mothers feed them? Their is lots of people who went to school for 20 years or so and don't make 5 million in their life time, but they donate money to help others, and a high % of their earnings, maybe just not a high dollar amount. Every rich person does not spend 5 million for a $100,000 car, Bricksir Hathaway, its spelled wrong, does not throw any his money away, he  trys to live like all of us but is one of the richest people in the US and claims he donate most of his money away when he dies, we well soon see being he is over 80.

C'mon dodgefrak - it's not fair!   :bawling:

Quoteyou need to do more than go to school and work hard , its who you know

I agree and disagree at the same time.   :yesnod:

QuoteAll those people that make 100's of millions every year their fathers also did, thats unfair.

Not every extremely successful person is riding on the coattails of their father / family!

QuoteWhy don't they use that money so other kids can go to school and help their mothers feed them?

Maybe some of them do.   :shruggy:  On the other hand, why should an intelligent, hard working person pay for some dumb ass, lazy leech's kids to go to school?     Some of those wealthy folks probably have a tough time (in principal) writing a cheque to an Ivy League school for $200,000.00 USD to put their own, lazy dumb ass kids through school!   :flame:

As far as feeding them, shouldn't that be the responsibilty of the parents?  If they are so poor that they can't afford to buy ffod, that is where the government steps in and offers wellfare.  Which comes from tax dollars, which comes from people like you and I!

QuoteTheir is lots of people who went to school for 20 years or so and don't make 5 million in their life time, but they donate money to help others, and a high % of their earnings, maybe just not a high dollar amount.

And people like this make the world a better place.  However, how do you think those people would feel if they were told they had to donate some of their earnings to help the dumb ass lazy leeches.

How would you feel if all of the sudden, the government decided that they were going to start deducting $10.00 from your paycheck to help feed, clothe and educate the people you see hangin' out in their front yard as you drive to and from work?

You can do what you wish with your money, I'll do what I wish with mine.  Bill W and Bill Ford can do what they want with theirs.  Is that what makes your country a great place to live.   :yesnod:

The people you see hangin' out in their yard on your way to and from work have all the same opportunities as you or I do.  What is stopping them from geetinig a job and paying for their own education.

Nobody ever told me life was fair and I suggest you go find the person that told you that and kick them square in the nuts!   :D

dodge freak

No live is not fair, and it does not make it right by saying thats how things are. There are lots of people , doctors , police officers, fire fighters, etc. who try like heck to make life better for everybody not for just themselves and their family. Those people should be paid much more if somebody else can make 200 million. Thats too much money for anybody to earn in one year, I still will never think that anybody should be able to throw their money away like that, sorry. I did say people like Elvis are different and if people want to pay for his music  so be it, but these guys who are CEO's and the people who do the hard work in the factory are working for the same place but are totally treated different. Just wish it was not like that, this country is great but could be even greater. The Government should help the people live better, if they- the super rich- don't like it let them leave, I sure won't miss them.

Mike DC

I agree there is something currently wrong with CEO compensation.

But at the same time, some starving kid in sub-Saharan Africa would probably look at any of US and think WE'RE the disgusting CEOs. We are also throwing money away on stupid stuff (like $20,000 old cars) while other people work all day for barely enough to eat.

Almost everyone's disgustingly over-rich compared to SOMEBODY else, if you look hard enough.
