Hi! I'm new to the forum and hail from Scandinavia.

I've been drooling after a 68-69 Charger for the past 20 years or so. Finally things are falling together and I'm getting close to have the funds to actually get one.

There's some good units for sale over here but I'm planning a longer trip to the states to visit some relatives (grandpa's from Michigan). I'd be looking for a Charger to buy as a bonus. Now, here's the question; how often you can come across 68-69 Chargers that are for sale locally? I mean, there's usually 30-50 Chargers for sale on several web sites constantly but how realistic it is still to find good candidates in local papers etc.?

Kind regards,

A proud grand son of a WWII B17/B-24 pilot

welcome to the site, and though it is not a prerequisite, you have great english speaking skills... some of our own American members cannot speak english that well hehehe :D :D

Though I cannot accurately answer your question, I do believe you need to start looking now for cars in the area in which you plan on visiting.  Importantly, find members on this board (and others) that are from that area that can help you out.

Well days of finding them are still around..... much more rare than 15 years ago.

I suggest as RD mentioned.  Try to get a list of cars in the area you are going to be.

If not i may have a 69 for sale shortly......I may have found an R/T and have a non-R/T right now.... :icon_smile_cool:

Welcome to the Charger site.

One thing to always remember is to stay patient when searching. Look at as many Chargers as you can without falling in love with one. You could look at a car & not see the flaws it has, buy it, & possibly miss out on a better one later. Some people on here have spent months & even years waiting for the right car to be available. Stay away from Halpag in Illinois & the junk on their website. That would be the most expensive pile of trash you'd ever purchase.

Good luck looking & ask questions before you buy, people here are very helpful.

Thanks guys! (I do write a little but speaking is another thing! You'd never believe how physical the english language is for a Scandinavian! Usually my whole face hurts after a couple of hours live chatting  :icon_smile_big:)

A couple of years ago I negotiated with the halpag guys in IL but couldnt' agree on the price. Today their prices seem to be out of control! I guess this is a bad time to buy a 68-69 Charger anyway with all the Dukes hype still going on... Although, and I hate to say this, the current dollar rate is so low that we'll probably see a lot of old muscle float over here. Fortunately, I'd say we have good restoration skills and I've hardly ever seen a really molested classic around here. Usually they are real nut&bolt restorations done with respect.

Personally, I'd rather drive a Charger in its natural habitat but unfortunately its really damn hard to get a green card to the U.S. nowdays. My brother has a solid job waiting in New York but the visa issues have taken over a year already!

Anyway, I too, have been looking for the right one for years. I hope I'll find it before we run out of gas for good! The 95 octane here is around $6.19/gallon. Takes special kind of attitude to drive any V8 engined car around here!

If you want to come to the USA and work just fly to Mexico and jump the border, that always seems to work here. Doing in legally you will never get here.

Welcome to the Site!  I wish you well in your search and hope that you are successful.  I see your grandfather was a B-17/B24 pilot in WWII.  You must be very proud of him!

(off-topic stuff)

Yep, he flew with the 486th BG over Europe, as a pilot and bombardier. Passed away some years ago already..His brothers were fighting on the other side with the Germs. Life is strange..

Its' a good thing people have equal changes to try to move the U.S. Somehow though, its a bit frustrating if you have two univ degrees and a plethora of potential jobs waiting there and still have problems in getting all the paper work done! Maybe I should try the mexican border thing  :icon_smile_big: Being quite blonde and nearly 6'4" I'd really stick out of the crowd!
