Does anyone have any recommendations for what adhesive to use between the dash & cowl?  (I've got a 68 if it matters)  I'll hopefully be putting mine back in soon and wasn't sure if any good adhesive at a hardware store would do the job or if there was a specific type or brand I should look for.  Thanks for the help.

Good question! I'm ready for this too.

Is this just to make sure there's no leaks? I don't think it has to really be glued on it.This is just to put betwen the dash and cowl so it's snug ?
I'd use something like 3M seam sealer which adheres very well to just about all clean surfaces, it's elastic so it last a long time and you can paint over it directly in case you want to.
If you really want to glue it in you need a windshield glue, same type of cartridge which you can apply by hand or with a caulking gun.
Don't get any of those bathroom caulks, they really don't work all that well in a car...unless you have a bathtub in it..
There's plenty others besides 3M with the same qualities and some for less money but I really can't think of any brand names right now.I'd go for the 3M anyway, you're sure to have quality then.
Hope this helps, if not...ask again  :icon_smile_big:

When I removed my dashboard prior to droping of the Charger to get totally media blasted, I had to remove a thick layer of sealer so that I could exposed the bolts to unbolt the dashboard at the windshield area. This sealer was pliable and not rigid. I was able to remove it with a screw driver and once up you could peel it off. This Sunday I have a guy that works for a large car interior restoration place installing my headliner "on the side" and I'll ask him what stuff they use.

That very much sounds like auto body caulk and it's what I'd use. It seals, protects but is removable if you wish so.

if it is the stuff i am thinking of  , it was under my windshield gasket and covering  some of my dash bolts of my 69 , windscreen guys used this stuff all the time , before the the days of bonded in glass , it is a permanently flexable black water proof sealer that is layed in the channel before the gasket is fitted , Kent industry's sells it so does 3M part # 08509 i believe

Thanks for the input guys!  That black stuff you mentioned sounds exactly like what I encountered.  (just FYI, a little brake cleaner works like magic to clean that stuff up).  So, is that stuff just put down on top of the dash as a sealant for the windshield gasket, or did they put it between the dash and cowl also?  It looked to me like it was put between the dash and cowl as a seal, but in retrospect it may have just seeped down in there from the windshield channel...  Any ideas?  would it matter?

How did you find out about my body-mod plans?   :D

i would of thought it was squeezed out of the windsheld channel , as the glass was eased in to place, . the factory method called for a large wide bead of sealer along the bottom  channel & about 5" up the windshield pillar , with an extra amount in the bottom corners.  you must repeat this  when fitting the wind shield other wise it will leak .  my windshield had never been out until i done the resto , and it was like this.  spraying  WD40 and rubbing it off with a rag  is also good for removing this  can be a bit messy though.

Mine did not have it in between the cowl and dashboard. Just had over the bolts and the whole area. Once I removed all the sealer, the paint underneath looked as new as day one!
