71-72 Lynch Road built cars carry a three digit axle assembly code at the end of the top line. This code changes from year to year and tells you what rear, gears, SG or not and brake set up was on the axle.

73-74 Lynch Road cars have what looks like a six digit number at the end of the top line. The first three digits of this series is the axle assembly code.

St. Louis built cars will indicate the Axle package on the tag such as A31, A33, A34 or A36 if the car came equipped with one. If there's nothing on the tag, you can go to the BS, if one is present, and find out the info.

The same info is available on the BS in two different places. One area shows the ratio and SG or not and the three digit axle assembly is listed elsewhere.

Do you have a specific code you want to check?

I don't have a Charger specific tag so I used a 71 Road Runner built in STL for this example.

Mine was built at lynch rd. and the first 3 #'s in that group of 6 @ top right is "987". What does that translate to rear gear?

Thanks

I don't have that one but maybe some one else can help. Here's a bump.

Does the car have an original 8.75 or was it something different? If you have the BS the gears, SG or not and the rear end housing is listed too.

I'm 99% sure everything's original back there and it's a 8 3/4. Although no build sheet, just fender tag. I've learned alot from the FT except the rear gear.

73chgrSE

the top right is

057   987055

the 055 makes me think it's a 3.55

I cant find much info on these lynch road cars.

Do you just want to know what gear ratio you have? If it is original like you say then can't you just check it?

Quote73-74 Lynch Road cars have what looks like a six digit number at the end of the top line. The first three digits of this series is the axle assembly code.

The last three digits are the numbers for the tranny assembly. The numbers 055 indicate the automatic tranny behind a 400.

As stated above, if you think they are the original gears you can lift the car or remove the carrier to check the date code and ratio.

The 3.55 axle would code 992.
