I saw this awsome straight original charger at the Fremont Ca. Mopar Ally show sunday,..
in the parking lot needing a wash and wax inna bad way...
An original and suprisingly straight 1971 Hemi Orange, Six-Pack (440) Pistol Griped,  Black Halo V. Top and Int. Charger. It had Power Windows. Tuff Wheel, Hood Pins, Air Grabber, Rallye Wheels. and a Gull Wing along with the full black Stripes and hood black out but no "R/T" I.D. on the hood. other then the 440 sixpack badge.
It was also a Special Edition,  It had the S.E. Rear Lights, with the black rear tape stripe above the rear facia with the chromed "Charger Special Edition triagle and crest, and in front,.. the hidaways.

U code = 440 4bbl ,  no such thing as a 71 RT SE. perhaps the car has been modified.

Nacho-RT74

not RT/SEs on 71... that was just on 69... I think also 70.

It is apparently a SE with 440.

R/Ts only had the louvered tail lights.

Didn't 71 Charger 500's also have louvered tallights ?

Nacho-RT74

Yes 500 also, argent... but I wanted to mean that R/Ts ONLY HAD louvered tail lights as rear lights option, not that R/Ts are the ONLY ONES with those tail lights. ;) , different than Superbees with two different rear end options

I think that was missunderstood.

no such thing as a 71 RT SE. perhaps the car has been modified.

About 18 years ago, I had placed an ad in the paper looking for a 71 Charger RT. I guy phoned me up with a 71 RTSE Sixpack car. I went to look at it. Beautiful white on black 440 Sixpack auto car. Looked all correct with a few minor things under the hood to correct. It was a WS23V1 car. The car had hidaways, vinyl roof with SE emblems and SE upper door panels, all the right SE parts (can't remember if it had the chrome trim around windows).

I couldn't buy the car at the time, but a serious collector I knew bought it. He had a warehouse of Hemi and Sixpack cars, and was knowledgeable. I was at his house after he bought the car, and I told him I was confused about the VIN. This car was an RT (WS23) and I knew that an SE car was WP29. Can't have the same VINs. He said that the SE package was on the broadcast sheet, not in VIN, because it was ordered that way. I was 18 and just learning Mopars, so I believed him. Never saw the broadcast sheet. He fixed the minor things and ended up selling it for over three times what he paid for it!

Not sure if I believe it now, but has anyone else ever come across this at all?

THE CHARGER PUNK

so maybe there was such an option, seems 2 make sense as u could of ordered an r/t se the last 2 yrs (69+70)-MATT

Goldfinger71

I have heard about a few 71 R/T SE's,and I actually saw one at a local show here a few years ago.I am beleiving that some of the 71 R/T SE stuff I have heard about and seen were dealer installed.I have read nothing nor do I have any lit' talking about 71's  coming with both packages.........but who knows with Ma'Mopar! ;)
Some people get REALLY offensive :icon_smile_angry: when they claim there car to be correct and they are told it's not!(No matter how nice someone comes across about it! :-\)
Like a restored 71 Superbee I saw a few weeks back.It looked very good :yesnod:,but it had the louvered 71 R/T hood insert on it.He told me that was the way they came.I corrected him,at least he was nice about it!

i wonder if he will trade me for the runner?..  ;D

71 RT

I agree, I never have acutally seen a 71 RT/SE.
Ma Mopar did some weird stuff.  I once saw a superbee with a R?T hood blackout decal.  It was original from the factory, an obvious mistake by someone on the assembly line.  This is reasonable because the B bodies were assembled at the same plant, someone jsut made a mistake.  But as far as the SE package on an R/T??
Anything is possible, but I agree with the others....I have personally nerver seen one.

nakita7

The SE option (code A47) was on the fender tag of 69 and 70 cars, but what about 71 cars? SE is a model, not an option, and therefore had the serial number to show it. Like I said earlier, this car looked legit, but I wish I would have seen the broadcast sheet.

Brock Samson

so what of the that rear facia?.. S.E. Logo over a stripe?.. looks bone-stock factory to me... this car had me drooling... and the six-pack logo beside the popup on the hood,.. you think the owner did that?.. U code huh?.. what was the code for '71 six-packs anyhow?..

71440charger

That Car is an SE model it is just like mine he has changed out the parts to make it look like an RT the RT's came with the full vinal top

right... SEs on 3rd gens are in fact different VIN ( WP ), same as 71 superbee ( WM ), regular or base model ( WL ) hardtops ( WH ), R/Ts ( WS )... what I don't remember is the 500s VIN.

It is a cool car regardless. I did notice the back up light bezel on the dash so the 4 speed may be original. Not many remember or care about that when converting over from an automatic.
