how and why do you lock topics?

Mainly because some people can't seem to play nice with others. As for how, only moderators or admins can lock threads. Threads on politics or religeon go in the toilet real fast so, in an effort to cut down on the amount of babysitting the moderators have to put in (and to keep the personal attacks to a minimum), they are prohibited. Usually the lock happens about the time people start name calling or hurling insults but sometimes we won't wait that long if we know where things are headed (since we've seen many of these topics countless times and know how they end up). Other sure-fire ways to get a thread locked are racism, hate, prejudice, stupidity, nudity, or otherwise inappropriate behavior. Remember that there are a large number of people here from all over the world with different moral and racial backgrounds so it pays to "think before you type".

First time I seen that somethings are prohibited, how are us "new" members find out whats allowed and whats not, is there somewhere that we can read what the "rules" are.

Hey I wish everybody believed in the bible- Tho shall not kill -no more gun deaths or death penalty- do not sin-no more gay sex, even if its 2 girls , etc. Thats whats wrong in this world, can't think of much I don't like whats in the bible.
