I'm learning I have a mosquito problem in my yard. They don't bite me (my wife says they don't like the taste of Sam Adams) but my wife and kids can't hardly go outside for a minute without getting tore up. I've tried citronella, it has too small area of coverage, does anyone have a better way? Any help is apprieciated.

Tempo is the ticket man, spray you yard, you won't have any untill after a good rain.

Do you have alot of damp or swampy areas near your house, that will draw them like a magnet. I spray a small amount of deet on my clothes but wouldnt use it on my kids

Todd,

we can go to Fleet farm or most any co-op carries it.  At least here.  As far as dogs, go mine is just fine, and well ask Russ,  I have not grown any new limbs or anything.  I believe the body will break down the active chemical in it.

I say TEMPO if you want to prevent the lil bastar$%  DEET if you have to go where you cannot spray.

The tempo is wonderful

What actually attracts mosquitoes is the carbon dioxide we breath out. There are units in the market that kill mosquitoes without the need to spray chemicals in your yard or apply chemicals to your skin. See the link...............there are others too you can plug in. I see alot of hotels and resorts out here in LI and other places that use them and you can sit comfortably outside without being bitten. Good luck.

I've heard nothing good about those traps at all.  Everything negative so far.  I'm all for Napalm myself although I really am interested in that TEMPO stuff now.

I don't know about that...remember Agent Orange?  DDT?

Not saying they used these chemicals with knowledge they were harmful...but it turns out the WERE harmful.

I don't use DEET....scares the hell out of me.

I used to have a mosquito problem until I went on a full-on mosquito offensive.

Every 2 or 3 days, I walk around my property and get rid of ANY and all standing water.  Mosquitos can breed in something as small as a bottle cap.  As a result of this, my mosquito problem is no longer a problem.
I ain't got time for pain, the only pain I got time for is the pain i put on fools how don't know what time it is.

Before going over to Afghanistan we had our uniforms soaked in permetherin???? and were given a cream form of the stuff with Deet.
That stuff is a neurotoxin, that is supposedly not harmful to people  :-\ it wreaks havoc on waterlife though (they can't metabolize it and they die)  :drunk:

DDT was supposed to be harmless too.  ::)

Without turning this into an anti-military/government topic, just because something is allowed, or declared to be safe, doesn't mean it is. If you do use Deet, spray your clothing & not your body. It's more of a common sense approach since it's a poison, & in most cases the less you use it, or the less your body comes in contact with it, the safer it will be. I rarely spray myself with it & would rather deal with the bug bites, but if I know I'll be in the yard for an extensive amount of time I spray my clothing. I also shower & change right after I'm done so there's even less time I'm in contact with it.

I think the marketing geniuses would love it if we all believed it was a safe & harmless repellent, & not the poisonous & toxic insecticide it is.

I spray DEET in my cereal, I use it as a topping on my salad, and most importantly as an underarm spray and cologne.

Two words.... WEST NILE!

Really never heard anything negative about them, a friend of mine has one and it keeps his entire backyard mosquitoe free all summer. He used to have a problem but got one of them mosquito traps that uses some type of lure and sucks the buggers into a net and dries them out. It uses a propane tank and draws them in to a funnel like device were they cannot fly out and they just dry up in the netting. He loves it and swears by it and says a full tank of propane lasts all summers.
