MOPARHOUND!

Left Kansas City around 5:20am after 3 hours sleep (business problems, hope I was coherent most of the day....LOL) and arrived at the fairgrounds at 8:20am Saturday morning.  Blue Pentastar took my credentials at the shack.  152 miles one way.

Turnout was okay by me, show was what the Charger hobbyist wanted to make it.  Forgot to take pic's.  Mine was the white 71 Charger R/T with the car parts in front of it.  The new L & P console shells sold out, and could have sold more if I had them, they are a quality piece.

The head engineer's slideshow of the Charger history was a highlight.  Did not realize one year of the 3rd gen Charger was nearly identicle in sales volume to one of the years sales volume of the 4th gen.

Another highlight was the cruise.  Took along Chad McGee and his friend Thomas "The Mad Hungarian" ha ha, J/K.  Did a little hot rodding for fun, had the high octane stuff in, but the timing was still at 32 and the weather was around 100 degrees.   Had a good time, not been on a cruise like that with all Chargers, half going one way and the other going the reverse route.  Neat deal, passing a big line of Chargers headed the other direction halfway through the cruise.

Talked to General 01 just before leaving, admirable the long tow/travelling some made to make the show.  Said hi to 72Rallye440 (Dewey), but he was on a mission with his camera to somewhere.  Chad McGee has been kind enough to send me a tinted wing glass a thief broke years ago on one of the 69 Chargers, for which I am very thankful to him.

Arrived home a little after 10:30pm Saturday night a zombie, but trip was worth it.

Don't know if anyone has a pic of my car, but mine is the white 71 Charger R/T with the black striping.  If you squint real hard you can see Chad, Thomas, and I in it in the middle of this line of Chargers during the cruise.........LOL.

*"We normally wouldn't use a 383 for this build, parts and labor for a 440 cost the same."

ChargerHound,

Troy got a pic of your car in his other post.

I got to talk with designer Carl Cameron for about 10 minutes when he came over to look at my car. One interesting point he mentioned was that the '68 Charger was originally designed with '69 taillights but, later it was decided by the higher ups to go with the round because of the new Corvette coming out. He also designed the W15 hubcaps on my car  :icon_smile_approve: and the '68 sidemarker lights.

'Ya see, keeping those caps on brings in the most curious of people. If you had the common road wheel, he might have just walked on past.  ;D

Cool Pics guys.

He said that he also designed the valve cover on the shelby chargers as well.

True....several people asked how I restored them. The truth is that was the easiest part of the whole car because they were NOS and I just had to dust them off.  ;D

Thanks Mike for all the hard work and great times, and the compliment on the car.  I'm just getting home from the Iowa family thing so I'll catch up later.  Just wanted to let everyone know I had a good time.  Lee

It also was the people's choice winner. It is a very sweet car.

I want to say thank you to all who showed up and helped to make it the great meet it turned out to be. All Wayne and I did was provide a place and list of thinks to do. The members did all the rest by showing up and helping. Thanks to all who helped cleaned up afterwords.

You all made it a meet I will never forget. Although some parts are a little blurry it seems like it went by so fast.

Thanks again

Ah-ha, I knew it! I've always thought they looked as if someone in the design crew changed their mind at the last minute for whatever reason & slapped some round ones on. :icon_smile_tongue:
I still wouldn't turn down possibly owning a '68 though. ;D

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

72 Rallye440, the picture you took of your car from the second floor of your hotel was directly in front of door. I spent three nights right next to your car while talking to the people in the parking lot until 1:30  in the morning every night. I was the bald, well rounded deputy from Ohio that everyone started to call Larry the Cable Guy. I wish I could live those three days over again. Loved every minute of it.

Oh, don't ask about the Laryy the Cable Guy thing....lol
