A few weeks ago there was a thread about original 68 Charger rearends.

See here.....

http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php?topic=13763.msg156698#msg156698

In that thread I made the statement that 69 Chargers didn't come with the A31 High Performance Axle Package (3.91 8¾ Sure-Grip rear).....well I was stumped!

Thanks to Jeff (65rbdodge) from Moparts who found this car in a junk yard in PA.  Jeff was also gracious enough to send me the actual tag from the car

The car is/was an F8 green SE car 383 auto trans.

Also a very late build date (last date of production)  I only have 1 later car (about 75 VIN's higher) in the registry.

Here's a reverse pic of the tag with the option circled...( the front side is pretty hard to read)

Here are a few pics of whats left of the poor girl...... :-\

good one Jeff  from Moparts   . it makes you wonder what other chargers lay undiscovered  , with previously un seen combination of codes & colors on a fender tag.
Feel free to post any relevant picture you think we all might like to see in the threads below!

Cool find.  Thanks for the info, Chris.

I'm curious what the latest build number you have in the '69 registry?  I believe mine, built in early July, is toward the end?

Too bad that car can't do a "Christine".

If only it was a real Hemi Charger, somebody would re-body it for sure.

Cool deal Christopher.  :yesnod:

That A31 is a rare one. We have 3 registered so far. 2 of those cars are owned by I believe a member here, and built side by side.

That is a nice find for the registry!

I had wondered why it was not available if other B bodies could get it.

On a side note I just learned from your posting of the tag that 718 was the last day of production. I had always thought the last day was 711. I guess mine is not as "late" as I thought at 708. Do you have any idea if 718 was the last day for all assembly plants or did the start of shut down vary?

Good question. Even more, since there were two plants doing these cars, did they both end on the same day?  :scratchchin:

Thanks for your answer to my question, Chris.  I appreciate it and the work you've done to create/maintain the registry.

Chis, a few weeks ago when I checked the gears in the '69 I'm building, low & behold they were 3:91's, a Sure-Grip to boot. Car was originally a 4-spd. I do NOT have the original fender tag, & the broadcast is long gone. Could they be the original gears??? Who knows for sure.

I didn't think that the A31 option was so rare. I figured it would be quite common on  the 383 and 318 cars.

Only available with the 383 engine Danny.......have you seen any 69's with it before?

So far Im fairly certain that 7/18 was the last day for the Hamtramck plant.
As far as the St. Louis plant, the latest date I have on record so far is 7/9  Im fairly confident that this might be the last day as well because I believe the '70's started on 7/10 in the St.Louis plant........Correct Chris?

I'll go back through the list of tags I have wrote down, and see. Not to be mean but I don't tend to write down much info about cars with 383's in them. That is unless  they were a sunroof car. You know me I'm picky, I like cars with the A11 option. :) or the M51. :)

The 70's started on 8/01. They need a couple weeks for re-tooling and probably, the employee's were partying too hard considering how happy they were that they would have the privilege to build the greatest car of all time...known as the 1970 Charger.  ;) That's my theory.  :shruggy:
