Are police cars usually built before they are paid for?
Sixty-eights look great and the '69 is fine.

Ya dark blue looks ok. You can hardly tell it's a 4 door. This may come as a news flash to some, but I don't hate the car as much as I used to.  :o

Wasn't that other cop car that was being sold on ebay that was linked on another thread in here have more cop options?  It looked the same, but I thought it had posi rear, fast ratio stearing box, high output alternator, maybe stiffer springs and bigger sway bars, stuff like that,  can't remember.

Why would you want anything else?  Just give me a Charger and I'll be happy.

Wouldn't you be proud to be pulled over, arrested and hauled to jail by one of those.  A local suburb near here just bought four of them.  I saw one yesterday.

DC_1

it would be a cool daily driver!........on the highway people would slow down and pull to the right lane when they see the spot lights and figure it is an unmarked.

Also, may keep you from getting speeding tickets since any cops doing radar may think it is one of their own or from another jurisdiction passing through.

i agree the more i see it i like it , would be a good every day driver  A  TO  B,    just should not have called it a charger

Doesn't anybody wonder why the police did not want it? Maybe it was in a flood or something. Maybe the dealer doesn't want to sell it to the police cause of something like flood damage. Seems like somethings not right.

Sorry but that car is worse looking than a regular 2006 Charger. It needs some 20" Chrome Wheels on it.

??? Do you need a pair of 3D glasses to see it?

My guess is it's not a Police car.  Looking in the back seat I see no seperation from the prisoner via a cage or glass.  And as I understand it cop cars usually have a back seat with reliefs for your arms while cuffed.  The only thing that I see that would set it off as a cop car is the spot light and the wheels and I'm sure you can pick those up almost anywhere.  I'm sure the cops here will correct me on this.
When I was just a very young lad I looked up and told my dad, a bareback rider's what I wanna be.  I want the whole world to know about me.  In the rodeo arena I'll make my stand.  I wanna be a rodeo man.  I'll come flyin' from the chute with my spurs up high, chaps and boots reachin' for the sky.  Spurin' wild with my head throwed back, you'll ask 'Who's that,' well that's Bareback Jack.  You'll ask 'Who's that,' well that's Bareback Jack.

The prisoner cages/ Seperator partitions are installed by the individual Police Departments.  Cages DO NOT come from Dodge or any other manufacturer, and the back seats are no different as you think they should be.

In the old days when Chrysler made real police cars the only ones who could buy one brand new were the police or other government  officers. Thats when they had 440's and could kick butt on the top end. Now I guess anybody can buy one new but of course its has no 440 in it. For that much money I could make a real nice ride. Oh yeah Chrysler has a 160 speedometer in it but thats one of those electric units that keep going up even when the speed isn't. Its been a long long time since I seen a true 140 mph new  car flying down the freeway that doesn't take 2-3 miles to reach that speed.

The cage is not installed by Dodge nor the dealerships.  Our department contracts out to a company to transfer the cages over from one car to another.  Now again, this is for our crown vics but from what I hae heard, the chargers are too small in the back and will not allow a full cage in the back.  New single sided cages are being made for the chargers and requires removal of the front pass. side seat.

As for rear seat with the relief, that is also another option that departments would have installed.  That would not come from the dealer or Dodge itself.

To answer the question about police packages being paid for prior to them being built.  The manufacturers would build the cars with the packages and have the dealerships sit on them.  Usually the demand for police cars are so big that they usually dont last long on the lots as cars are abused.  After all.... they arent your car.
