Just want to share with you guys a great weekend I had with my hunting buddies. We went out east to Orient Point in the eastern part Long Island called the North Fork and chartered a boat to take us out fishing for some stripe bass. We all met on Friday at 7:00 pm at the Silver Sands Motel in Southold, drop our stuff in our rooms and then headed to get a bite to eat. We went to O'Malleys and had a great dinner and many drinks/beers. The next morning we left our rooms at 6:00 am and met Capt. Richard Jensen and his fishing deck hand Jim at the dock in Orient Point for a 7:00 am departure. We got underway on time and traveled for approximately one hour north east and fished the Plum Island "gut". That's the area between the tip of LI and Plum Island (where LI sound meets the Atlantic Ocean). The whole day was drizzling, fog and damp. Surprisingly the ocean was calm! We all caught fish. We each caught the limit of 2 stripe bass per man and we also kept several nice size blue fish. The bass ranged from 28" - 36" long. The blues were from 7 lbs - 12 lbs. We got back to the dock at around 3:30 pm. Had something to eat again! Seems like we constantly ate and drank cold ones all day! Then we all headed home. Awesome tasting fish may I add!!

I have to add that this trip was scheduled two years ago. The "Nancy Ann" is the top stripe bass fish catcher on eastern LI. Capt. Jensen has been in magazines write up's. He's a bit camera shy - no photo of him. Jim the fishing deck hand knows he stuff! I think that Capt. Jensen is so successful because of Jim (He's the guy holding up the single fish with one arm - close up picture). He knew what lure was working and he told us exactly how to handle the rod and line. He told us at the dock, "if you do exactly what I tell you to do, when I tell you to do it, you will catch fish" and he was right. He got a good tip from all of us. Jim has been fishing all his life. In the off season he fishes on commercial deep sea fishing long liners. He said he's going to try the crab fishing one of these days in the Alaskan sound (Deadliest Catch)!
