I feel like I just lost my Virginity al over again... Took my Charger out for a short spin around the block today.. I haven't yet aligned the front end, but I just couldn´t resist taking it out for some fresh air...

The Dominator carb turned out to be a real bitch to tune so that the engine will accept gears.. It will die if idle in neutral is under 1700rpm, when you put it in gear, the rpm will drop to some 1500rpm.. Well I don't care, it works, but I will have to play around with the carb more at a later time...

The car will burn the hides in al tree gears with the rpm under 3500 :punkrocka: ... well then again the street was wet, so that explanes it.. But it does pull like a motherfu...rrrr... The engine sound is really vicked and the body dances the macarena...

It will be a thrill to take it to the track and see how it performes.. I'm not gonna put my aims that high the first time, if I can drive it into the very low 12´s I'm happy.. Ill start to hunt times once I get a good feel for the car.. I do have to say that right now, I more or less feel I'm gonna shit my boxers.. -Yes, the car REALLY is that scary !

Here are some pics... -I know, the car needs a good wash and cleaning...

First two pics are of the engine compartment.. I think it looks OK. I would have wanted to put more time and effort into hiding al the wires, but Ill do that later on....

1700 rpms...thats kinda high don't you think? btw very nice charger
Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

You do know that the Dominator carb. is strip only no street. That may be why you have a 1700 idle speed. Holley hp carbs. work very nice on the street and they do have a 950 d.p.

Very nice Tom....big change from the old 400 huh !  :punkrocka:

Those Dominators are a bitch to tune for the street. If it's idleing at 1700 then it's on the main circuit....not the idle circuit. You'll have to tune the air bleeds to get it idleing lower. What's the model number on that carb ? Is it a 2 circuit or 3 circuit carb ?

Low 12's huh....i can taste that Heiniken allready !  :nana:

:punkrocka: Ron...

Yeah, its a HUGE leap from the tired 400 engine...

I don't remember the carb # but I'm quite shore it is 8082, so that is a 2 circuit Dominator.. The carb could use a compleat overhaul just to be certain that it works as its intended to, but I didint have my buddy do the overhaul, cause the guy at the shop, where I had the engine dynoed, told me the carb works well, so we more or less let it be for that reason..  My buddy did try everything he could possibly think of, he knew the Dominator would be a bitch to tune. It can be tuned for OK street manners, but it takes time to find the magic formula to my understanding.. Its no problem to get it to idle at 1000rpm, but then the engine dies when you pull it into gear.. We will continue to try and find the right tuning formula for it.. It does sound a little nuts when the idle is at 1700rpm and when you hit into gear it makes the car :bump: We more or less just left it, cause we both wanted to take it out for a short spin around the block...

..and the low 12sec pass is just my aim for the first track day.. Who knows maby Ill have the luck of the "dumb" and hit a low/mid 11sec first time out (what my ride should in theory be able to pull)... so I think Ill hold on to that case of Heineken until I really know what the car can do, or more important, what I'm able to make it run cause I'm certain the car by itself will do alright...

...I kinda get the feel you are getting nervous Ron, maby you have realised that the case of beer is actually going to be travelling Eastbound over the Atlantic :D

This is the closest you´ll come to the case of Heineken :nana:

Chryco Psycho

definatly need to tune the ide bleeds , even just inserting a wire ito the bleed can make a Huge difference  but basicaly you need to restrict the bleed so the low vacuum will pull fuel through the idle circuit
Congrats BTW .... loks awesome !!

You bet i'm nervous....can you imagine the cost to ship a case of beer across the atlantic !!  :o

Try experimenting with the idle bleeds as Neil said....Holley sells bleed kits for the dominator. Good luck with the tuning.

The 440 is built with more or less of the shelf parts, nothing exotic has been used in the build..

Rods: Six-pack rods that are balanced in both ends
Pistons: Speed Pro
Comp: 10.7:1
Cam: I don't have the numbers, I only know the final lift (592) with 1.6 rockers (Crane Gold)
Heads: Edelbrock RPM (right from the box)
Intake: Weiand Team G
Carb: Holley Dominator 1050cmf

Engine is dynoed. The power curve is smooth. Final hp is 542.5hp@ 5900rpm

727 trans with a Turbo Action manual valvebody. 9.5" Dynamic converter with a stall of 3500rpm
8 3/4 rear axel with Moser shafts and 3.91 gears

Suspension: Bushings are Poly Urethane al around. 3-Way adj. front chocks in the front and Mopars own race chocks in the rear. SS springs.. The suspension more or less built according to the Mopar Chassie book.. Subframe connectors mounted.

Electric fan and water pump to gain some Hp...

That thing is wicked awesome.  I read your other post saying you're gonna hit 11's.  I'll see what I can do with the 55 when I grow some you know what's.  Im getting too old for that kind of stuff.  Late summer I might show you a slip.  I'm more interested in my Charger right now, maybe if the 55 needed more work i'd be under her.
Have fun and align that front end would ya! :icon_smile_big:

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

Congrats Tom, We know how hard you been workin on her, ya gotta love the stainless!  :yesnod:
now where's that custom made hood?..

Mefirst

Well aligned the front wheels today and made some noise in the neighbourhood.. People need to hear the sweet sound of a V8, the best sign that summer has arrived...

The day did not sadly go with out problems, noticed that the damn fueltank has a tiny leak.. But its not that bad, Ill still race next weekend. Then again I'm debating should I buy a new stock fueltank or go with a fuelcell??? Any input is welcome about this predicament...

/Tom

PS. Strat ! Ill post some new pics for you as soon as I get home, so you can see the PAINTED hood ;)

mikepmcs

Tom
depends on what you are going to do with it, strictly racing, probaly not.  A new standard fuel tank is reasonable in the $140 range.  You might wanna just plug it with some JB weld just for the next race, safer that way :Twocents:

stainless looks like this.  Ahhhhhhhhhhhh! :icon_smile_big:
